Paul E
Here is my model at 1:700 scale of HMS Hardy, a Type 14 Anti-Submarine Frigate. I built this model for my father who served on HMS Hardy when he did National Service with the Royal Navy in the late 1950s. The model portrays HMS Hardy as she appeared at that time with 3 guns. The Bofors gun on the quarter deck was removed in the 1960s because of its exposed position and most pictures of the Type 14 frigates show the gun having been removed. The model is basically a rework of the MT miniatures 1:700 kit which is very basic to say the least. There is a build log showing the extent of the conversion I undertook here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235025645-1700-scale-type-14-frigate-hms-hardy/ Apart from the MT Miniatures kit I used: The Pitroad NATO weapons set for the Limbo Anti-Submarine Mortars. White Ensign 1:700 Photo Etch - General Post War Royal Navy fittings. White Ensign 1:700 Photo Etch – RN Doors and Hatches. White Ensign 1:700 Photo Etch – Ladders and Walkways. Starling Models 1:700 Photo Etch – RN WWII Boat Davits. Lion Roar 1:700 Photo Etch – USN WWII Fairleads Flyhawk 1:700 – Modern RN liferafts And Niko 1:700 – 40mm single mount Bofors Guns. This may seem an awful lot to buy to improve one model but the transformation from the original MT Miniatures kit speaks for itself. There are some things I think I could have done better but on the whole I think the model has turned out quite nicely and definitely an improvement on the original. Enjoy and thanks for looking.

Paul E
Thank you for the kind comments, they are very much appreciated. My Mum on the hand will be relieved because it also has a Perspex dust cover.
andrewa
Really nice result - my first scratch built ship was my dad's old one, that also became a Christmas present and went down very well. A
Roger Newsome
What a great build and brings back some memories. HMS Fife's (the subject of another build on BM) Duty Watch were accommodated on the Hardy during the early 80's refit. It makes me itch thinking about sleeping onboard there.
Kev The Modeller
Lovely build mate, I'm sure your dad will be well chuffed with it. I too have a sort of connection with the ship, I went on board her in the 70's when I was a sea cadet, I also went on Blackwood and Exmouth which was the RN first all gas turbine ship I believe.
Paul E
Thank you, Yes my Dad is very pleased with this model. I must admit I am pleased with it too and nearly didn't let it go. They are quite an attractive looking ship.
Muzzers
Smashing model. I served on her, briefly, for the month before she de-commissioned - a quick 'round Britain tour taking in Cambeltown, Greenock and Hull in May '78 - lovely to see her again. I had no idea that a model existed of the class. ... and have just followed the link to see your build log. Smashing model is quite inadequate having seen the amount of modification required. It is an astonishing piece of work and really inspiring to someone who is just about to cut his teeth on his first model in goodness knows how many years Edited August 13, 2019 by Muzzers enter date of service and expand on comment
