Moebius Raptor and Armament Set

Recommended Posts

Once this arrived in the post I couldn't help but make a start. I finished off the interior and took some shots before it is all closed up for good. The armament set requires the door to be closed so the rocket pods can be attached. I also decided to light the engines. It is a heavy bit of plastic and would benefit from some ballast in the nose so it can sit nicely on a stand. It is almost ready for some black primer...I will airbrush Tamiya acrylics over the top to create a weathered look.

Great start, pity the inside won't be seen with the rockets added.

Nice! Not being a Galctica fan I haven't seen this ship before, I really like it, will be watching :)

And that interior looks great!

The Raptor looks beastly in Alclad's black primer. I have painted the pilots....I think the Moebius' Viper pilots look more convincing. Next layers will be browns of varying mixes.

this is a new thing for me - I've never seen one of these vessels before and I certainly don't know the kit - but its good to see something different and I have enjoyed what I have seen so far

I've just caught sight of the battery you have powered up to here and can now get an idea of the scale - looks pretty impressive

coming along really nicely. That interior is exquisite. Are the screens hand painted, decals, or somethings else. Beautiful none the less.

G'day James. Yes the screens are all decals along with most of the consoles. My hand isn't as steady as it use to be....these were a Godsend.

Here she is with some of the first layers of paint. It took two attempts to stick the canopy on. I had to trim the tabs off and position it evenly.....there isn't a lot of tolerance on each side. I used Tamiya Thin, and puttied the tab holes. I will sand them back and then top up the gaps with Perfect Plastic Putty wiped away with a damp cotton bud. I used various shades of alclad metallics on the engines, but once I added the tan, I realised I had to respray. I ended up using Magic Colour acrylic inks to darken the engine areas and to create some post weathering. The various shades of tan were varying mixes of Tamiya Deck Tan, Yellow and Nato Brown. It is a little paler than I had hoped, but I can live with it. I need to do some detail brush work before a coat of future for some washes.

Somebody asked about the size of the kit....it is 1:32 scale. You can get an idea of the size next to the cement bottles in the photos. It is a good size to work on and very chunky and industrial looking.

It has been a very enjoyable build.

Here is the Raptor all glossed up with decals on and the beginning washes. I have used some Tamiya black panel line wash, to lift some of the details, followed by a Mig wash to create dirt and grime over the airframe. I love this wash as it is easily wiped away and manipulated to get just the right balance of dirt. The decals are few, but are nicely done and settle down well. I didn't even bother to seal them in with future before applying the washes. No problems. They will be knocked back with Mig washes to blend them in a bit. Once all the washes and some more drybrushing is done, then I will seal it all in with a matt varnish. I have also included some of the armament from Moebius' armament set....they are pretty nice and will definitely look the part once applied to the finished kit.

That's nice. Is the weapon set usable for the Viper? Every time I watch Blood and Chrome I want a fully decked out Viper.

Funnily enough, I was just pondering this one, which pooped up while I was looking at the GreenStrawberry site, as they have an exterior detail set here.  Too late for you of course, but looks like a nice piece of kit. :) I didn't see this one had been released somehow :hmmm:

You're making a good job of it

What you see in the weapons photo is what you get, except double of everything. I don't see why you couldn't convert some of it to fit a viper....it would look bad bottom.

An underneath shot with final weathering...and the weapons in situ. The kit is finished, except the radar probe.....completed photos to come in the next couple of days on the "Ready for Inspection" forum.

I just wish we had a distributor here in Australia who was willing to import this kit as unfortunately they are not going to do so for us here down under. Party poopers !

I know what you mean. I am in OZ too.  We have to resort to buying them online. I managed to get this from NZ. It was only 2/3 the price of everything else I could find, which meant I could afford the armament set to.

I saw examples of both the Raptor and the add on weapon set in a Collectables shop in Adelaide a week ago so someone is importing them. Pretty pricy though.

Cheers

Tony
