So how many of these little darlings are you planning on building

A few on these lines, hopefully different but only time will tell what I can achieve

@Murdo  Thanks

Brilliant work , great project. Slightly disappointed you did not include a person of unknown origin / colour / sex etc  to do menial or not so menial task on request / demand (could have been a scantily clad Swedish blonde lady specialized in rubbing and waxing material  , maybe you could scratch build one for the diorama).

Not sure how I missed this. Never thought of doing a bread and butter hull in plastic card. Then saw that this was to be merely the blnk...wow. I'm fascinated. Irksom bit is that you make it look easy!

Ah but it is !!

Looking backing in 14 days I've produced a plug (using waterline layers of pc). A mould and a hollow hull. Plus another solid hull  (using waterline layers of pc) but lower so that I had to plant the bulwarks (side fences) on the hull.

The variations are for different boats/dioramas I have in mind to do. The second solid hull to the stage shown above is only about 10 hours modelling time max. It's so easy to do and I let you into a secret, don't tell anyone else. ......

Whilst I try my best to keep to the lines if I'm slightly out at this scale you will never know, not even if you are an expert .... Plus if its in the water half the hull is hidden.

The other point to make about a boat hull is when you are eyeing along its length is if it looks right it probably is right !!

The plug/glassfibre is over egged to be honest but essential for a couple of boat/dioramas I have in mind.

Sorry to spout on, if you want me to show more details you'll have to ask

Spout away, it's fascinating. Should I be able and not gaga by the time I finish the MTB, I'd love to do a Bristol Channel  pilot boat. Probably to a somewhat larger scale...

Thanks, it is gorgeous, but a bit big! :D

I'd also miss out on my favourite bit of building - the hull.

Sorry to hear of your ' down grade '

Not much we can do for you from here, except offer our support and wish you a speedy recovery. (It's Mrs Gremlin I feel sorry for ..... )

Keep your hand/tentacle in by reaching out and touching some ones build in a way that will leave them confused and doubting their sanity i.e. wot you do best

I turn my back for a moment and return to this!!!!..........................

I'm in awe of that hull and mould - what a great looking vessel:)

And I'm seriously impressed by "Mascotte" - is that a Bristol Channel pilot vessel?

And Yes - i have to ask - what are the spars/booms/sails made of?

Seriously impressive and apparently effortless stuff:sick:

It is indeed, started quite a few years ago. Designed for R/C but fell by the wayside because I couldn't get the brass eyelets in the sails as I wanted them - kept splitting

I take it were talking the lugger here.

At the moment the spars and masts are made from rod/tube soldered together to make the reqd. dimensions.

Sails are still under development but at the moment they are made from 40gm layout paper ...

Well that's it I am now officially retired :penguin::penguin::penguin:

Been working since I was 16 and I'm now 65, you do you maths .....

Done my bit the government can keep me now

On to more important things, I've now got a full suit of sails tacked in place except for the jib. So next job will be rigging

Pleased with the way the sails are setting and I have made sure all four sails are slightly different colours/fading.

Looking at the lacing of the sails to the booms I think they are a trifle overscale. What do you think ??

Happy New Year to all on BM

Kev

PS @Hewy yes mate the intention is the same style of box frame
