Revell 2018

Der Lingener

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased the 1/32 F/A-18F of Trumpeter and it arrived yesterday. It has it's shortcomings but I purposely did not order the "Echo" because of the Revell new tool coming out. Not only is it a new tool, it is roughly 50% less in cost when compared to Trumpy. I figured I could not go wrong there.

As far as pricing is concerned, Asian kits (especially Chinese) have become over the top expensive. When you consider the cheap labor costs over there, someone is making some good profits. I believe the importer here in the States is pulling in some serious profit at the same time. Mark-up is 40% on the vast majority of kits from the distributor. Your prices in the UK and Eurozone are generally more than over here.

Well apparently they were releasing the full list of 2018 kits on 1st January.  I really hope the link on the previous post is not the full list released 30 minutes into the new year, if so I'm extremely disappointed 😫

Is that Enterprise in 350th scale really the D? Got to be a typo unless that is the something big that Round 2 are announcing soon? I make it 1.835 Metres long or about 6 feet in real measurements.

It's maybe time to re-edit the links to the Revell Germany (not USA!) 2018 programme

http://www.kitreviewsonline.de/revell-neuheiten-2018/#more-29418

http://www.ipmsdeutschland.de/FirstLook/Hersteller_News/Revell_News_2018.html

In these lists (complete?), the only three (yes 3!) "new tool" aircraft kits announced for 2018 are:

04994 F/A-18E Super Hornet 32 3 New Tool
03943 Bristol Beaufighter TF. X 48 7 New Tool
04958 Antonov An-225 Mriya 144 11 New Tool

Considering the F/A-18E and the the Beaufighter are holdhovers from the 2017 programme...

What about the 1/32 Extra 330SC that is listed under the Hannants future releases for Revell. That would also be a new tool.

My local shop has the Revell Hornet to pre order at £63 ($85). Compared to a price of £115 ($155) for the Trumpeter kit. I rarely buy Asian kits in the UK largely because of the often ludicrous prices - particularly Hasegawa. It's often cheaper importing them - even taking into account postage (and value added tax if importing from outside the EU). Much of the price is, as I understand it , down to the distributors/importers mark up

With you on that.  I am however pleased to see the Heinkel HE-177 returning. Out of the new tool items, the AN-225 at nearly £90 is out of my price league!!.Otherwise, unimpressed and underwhelmed. Looking on the bright side, this lacklustre list will mean less money spent!

The hasegawa 1/72nd b-24 is currently £35 on amazon, only hasegawa kit i have bought new in the last decade, the problem with high prices on far east kits is people keep paying the prices so the distributers keep advancing the prices to see how much the market will bear, i often hear people say the market for kits is dwindling and i wonder if it really is or if modellers are just simply being priced out of the market, think of some of the latest armour kits from trumpeter at £55-£60 per kit for a main battle tank, i know lots wont pay that , if they were priced at £25-£30 then you would shift far more and profit margins would still be good and they cant tell us that a model kit made in china with low paid workers and shipped to the uk in the thousands in a container justifies the £60 price tag .

Haven't bought a Hasegawa kit (new or second hand ) in over a decade. With new items/manufacturers appearing all the time,I would disagree with the arguments about dwindling markets or, people being priced out. A lot of foreign produced (particularly Asian) kits might actually be relatively cheap where they are made and only really become expensive when exported and, we are then gouged by the importers/distributors?

Revell, to their credit and, despite my disappointment at the rather poor (in my view) release list still manage to produce some of the best value for money kits around.

Got an email from Revell with new release list and it says the Bronco is a cooperation so probably Academy? Price on Hannants seems pretty steep at £17.99 (RRP £19.99). I've got six Academy kits in the stash and seem to remember the most I paid was around £6-£7, the majority of them for a lot less than that.

Given Revell's links with Hasegawa and the price, I would suggest its a Hasegawa kit, rather than Acedemy

you can pick the academy ov-10A  up at the for £8 of ebay with free delivery from Korea, the only benefit with the revell kit will be a decal sheet you can actualy use but then again revell are giving limited decal options these days .

The Hasegawa OV-10 is a pretty ancient kit, dating back to 1968. It even appeared in a FROG box. It's definitely not worth what Revell is asking if that represents the contents of this release.

Hasegawa and tamiya kits are best purchased from two Japan based hobbyshops - HLJ and hobbysearch . The price is often 33-50% less than what is asked on ebay , amazon or by European and American hobby shops . Shipping rates ( SAL registered ) are very affordable as well .

In case of trumpeter and hobbyboss kit , I find they are cheapest at Hong Kong based Hobbyeasy .

Hobbyeasy is great! They have good prices on Flyhawk kits too.

Given Revell's links with Hasegawa and the price, I would suggest its a Hasegawa kit, rather than Acedemy

Revell hasn't reboxed a Hasegawa kit in ages. I think the last one they did was the 1/48 Harrier GR.9, back in 2008.

A 1/32 Mirage IIIE  for less than £50 (which I assume is the Italeri kit) is very good! I'm hoping Revell ventures more into the 1/32 jet market with these well priced kits, so many subjects to do that are currently either silly prices, way outdated or non existent.
