Massimo
Good afternoon mates, Another session dedicated to those small items I prefer to get ready before finishing the kit, otherwise, I may ...forget... This morning I adapted the intakes' covers to get them and the ladders ito place, as there isn't much room in this area. I started by glueing some block to act as back stops for the covers I adapted the covers to fit inside the intakes. The straps will be fitted at the end. I extended the bottom legs to increase the ladders' angle with the fuselage. Then I cut some discs and rings out of plastic card to create the exhausts' covers. I added handles and strengthening plates. Now everything is ready for a red painting session! BTW this is Today's last arrival!!! Massimo
Hi fellas, Not much today, but covers and ladders are done. A couple of red coats first... ...followes by a wash with Tamiya panel line accent black, washed down with thinner to remove the excess. Finally a bit of white drybrush. A dry fit test to make sure they all fit and they're archieved for now! May be later tonight or tomorrow I'll work on th e arresting hook..depending on my Treasure's plans! Massimo
Good evening mates, the purposeof the day was to build the arrestor hook, so... ...I started from the main gears' doors, which had been started but were in need of attention. A few days ago I had added two pieces of thin plastic card to their outsides and let them dry for a while. I thought it best to go on with them and add a few more items into the " to be added at the end" list. As for the covers and ladders, I'm desperatly trying to behave and finish those items I normally leave for the end and...forget !!! So...this is where I was this morning. I cut the plastic card in excess, filed and sanded the outsides. I started adding some detail on the inside. ...and later in the day this is the result I achieved. I dry fitted the starboard door as it's the most critical one , due to the underwing tank. I'm qhite happy with the result. I may decide to sand a bit the tank, for a little more clearence with the gear leg, but I'll leave this for the end. I didn't like very much the front gear's leg...so I modified it. I replaced the main hub, added the brackets for the retraction cylinder and the light. They were glued with an angle, as I want to represent the kit with the angled wheel, to add a bit of life. Here a few pictures of the front gear in , while I was testing the length of the retracting cylinder's rod. Of course some more detail will have to be added, but the basics are there. Family picture. The front gear's door is still missing, but that's a quick job, as it's quite flat! One more job was the addition of a few panel lines around the nose section and the nose hinges, which were later sanded down to a more realistic thickness. And finally I got closer to what was my purpose in the morning... not the arrestor hook, but the rubber tipped slip guide. And that's it for the day. It's been a full modelling day, as I dreamed of for months!!! Next Monday I'll be back to work and thus I'll try to do as much as I can before then. Anyway, I start seing the end of the tunnel...at least for the Buccaneer!!! The rest of the project is still far away, but..I'm slowly getting there!!! No more talks now, there's an arrestor hook waiting!!! Good night! Massimo

Massimo, be careful; I have a vague memory that the Navy Buccaneers didn’t have a nose wheel light - that was an RAF fit. Check your references! But in general this is fantastic work 3

Massimo
Good evening, an update on yesterday and today's progress on the Buccaneer. Last night I took care of the main gears' doors. As usual the main gears' doors recived a coat of matt black, followed by a light grey coat, which was then brightened up with the addition of some white. Theywer sprayed a coat of Future (gloss) and a black wash, followed by a lighter grey and white drybrush. The outside was sprayed EDSG, and then the round area was brightened up with the addition of a touch of white. This morning, following @Ex-FAAWAFU and @Perdu suggestion, I deleted the light from the front gear's leg. I completed the sliding guide assembly and finally built the arrestor hook. Having to be painted EDSG, same as the fuselage, I fitted them to theit housings in the fuselage. I glued two metal pns to the staarboard pylon, to ease the fitting of the buddy-buddy refuelling pod. I glued the wind shield to the fuselage with a couple of touches of Tamiya green cap. There's a thin clearence which is actually being fitted with consecutive touches of Future. Then I added the two antennas below the nose cone and those on the spine. Next will be the refuelling probe, and then I may be nearly ready for some painting session on the fuselage. That's it for now. Ciao Massimo

Massimo
Hi mates, last update of the day: I added the small triangle on the port side of the arrestor hook. Added another one at the front and another small antenna under the nose bulge. I filled the gap under the windshield with Future, given with a small brush seferal times. And finally the front gear's door. Now I'm nearly ready for pinting. Just one question for the well informed... WERE THERE ANY HOOKS TO ATTACH THE CABLES USED TO THE CATAPULT? i DON'T RECLL TO HAVE SEEN THEM, BUT THERE MUST BE SOMETHING UNDER THE WINGS.... ANY INFO OR PICTURE WILL BE VEEEEEEEEERY WELCOMED!!! Ex-FAAWAFU
The catapult hooks were indeed under the wings; immediately onboard of the main undercarriage wells, behind some spring-loaded doors. Unless you’re portraying the aircraft on the catapult, you won’t see them. Google “Buccaneer catapult launch” & there’s a really clear pic of an S1 on the trials catapult at Bedford (scroll down - https://www.bahg.org.uk/NAD.htm) Edited January 7, 2019 by Ex-FAAWAFU 1

Massimo
Hi mates, yes, Airfix is planning to release a new Buccaneer... I'm quite used to it and, to be honest, my friends modellers know if I start a project involving an old kit, it doesn't usually take long for a manufacturer to announce a new release of that aircraft!!! No problem, building the newkit won't be fun as it was the one I've been working on for the last 12 months. So back to my kit. First I'd like to thank @theplasticsurgeon for the decal sheet which is going to save this build!!! In the last two days, I've filled the gap and sanded the area around the wingshield and last night I masked it with Tamiya tape trimmed with a new blade along the frames. I added the refuelling probe to the fuselage. After 12 months the time has finally come for some painting. Gunze Matt black first. Then it was time for Xtracrilics EDSG, trying to live a darker shade in the positions in the shadow. white was added to a very thinned EDSG to enlighten some areas To smoother things down, I applied a very thinned EDSG coat. A coat of Future gave the kit a nice semi-gloss finish. This morning I applied some Tamiya panel lines accent black to enlighten the panel lines. These are the pictures which render the real idea of the colour and different shades of grey. This is where I got. I hope tonight I can paint silver the air intakes annd wings' leading edges, so tomorrow morning I may start decalling. Anyway tomorrow afternoon I'll travel to Cambridge, where I'll stay for a week, so..there 'll be a pause!!! Thanks for visiting!
