Not the way I read the thread tart to be honest.

Hi,

I’m really enjoying this thread. Lots of nostalgic stuff on display.

Originally the thread resided over in Ready for inspection Aircraft. It’s subsequently been re-homed here.

Hence the context of my post is now incorrect.

No worries Plasto, the whole thread is making me check out E-Bay for an appropriate model.

Hi,

Here is the old Fw190 A. I built this a few years ago in a spurious scheme...

fw190A8 (1)

I dusted it off today and shot 7 images which I have focus stacked. To give the image above..

I remember replacing the kit U/C doors with some plastic card which were more scale thickness other than that it's OOB...

Cheers

I'm currently working on this little project, turning it into a Lockheed 14 Super Electra.

More rivets than you could shake a stick at!

This is where I'm at so far...

Not an easy build.

You'd call it a Labour of Love, I guess.

I'll post when she's finished.

A few more of my Airfix builds which were made for last years Airfix The Golden Years GB.

First one completed was this Angel Interceptor. The kit was re-scribed and I added a RetroKits interior.

Next up was this Fairey Firefly, the kit exhausts were improved with some short lengths of micro-tubing pushed over the existing plastic.

More rivets than you could shake a stick at!

Got there in the end, all part of the Lockheed Group Build., along with the MPM version and the ancient Revell Boxscale kit of the 1049G Super Constellation

Wow. Just had an amble along Memory Lane for a while reading through this thread. Amazing just how many kits I built in the 70’s and 80’s. Thank you so much to all who have posted. :clap2:

I got the ancient Airfix Dakota Gunship kit at a show last year, and having done the Italieri DC3 already, I had several civil options left on their decal sheet.

So that appalling murderous weapon was converted back to what she was meant to be......

This was another festival of raised rivets that needed removing, but the kit shaped up OK in the end.

I'm in the middle of some Airfix nostalgia builds at the moment which after a few weeks checking out what's on E-bay and seeing

long forgotten kits got me thinking exactly what molds are still in their hands? all those I/12 figures and 54mm stuff, those wildlife kits

or the 1/32 cars etc,I'm looking forward to the aircraft releases in the classics range due out,I noted a couple of the large scale

Gt Western which I'd love to see re-released and what about the QE2 and Canberra?

I've been following your nostalgia builds Steve, and the 1/180 Great Western is on my wanted list too. I'm sure I built one in my youth :pipe:

My eldest bid for one last week Ratch got it for 14 quid which I thought was reasonable.the cars go for silly prices too.

That TV documentary last year seemed to be saying that a lot of them were junked for scrap.

The look on the re-employed boss's face as he walked into the emptied and derilect storeroom spoke volumes.

I have been looking forward to getting a "Classics" DH Heron this autumn, but it's now the end of November.....!!

still, we'll wait and see what they can recover over time.

I mean, we do this for fun, for nostalgia, for the challenge, but there's no denying these old kits are pretty poor compared to their new stuff, and everybody else's new output too.

Not really an accurate picture. Tools are stored with the Injection Moulding facilities, whether that be abroad or in the UK. I was taken around the mould store at Margate a few years ago and there are still quite a few there. Jez Brooke has been going through the Airfix Tool Register for the Airfix Collector's Club. I don't think there is a definitive list of lost tools yet, but it isn't that many.

Just managed to squeeze a couple of provosts into the big box of 1/72 finished kits and out of forty odd in there I realised there's

only one "classic" Airfix so here she is..

20191124_111841

I have however been collecting a dozen or so for a winter project on going.

is,note another classic in the background just arrived in that lovely white plastic without the poor details of the last reboxing.

Nice looking Loco Steve. I've got builders in line from the rest of the series that I would love to have a go at. One of the things getting in the way of that is the number of Group Builds I keep signing up for!

I don't know if you collect in any way, but if so, that tape around that early box will come off with a soak in lighter fluid. The fluid evaporates without trace. You might get lucky and have no residue of the tapes glue as well.

Tony.
