doorgunner
Hello, I am building a full scale P51D instrument panel and have a doubt regarding the canopy release warning sign that was placed in the upper panel, just under the gunsight. I have found some reproduction online and google isn't my friend this time.... I would like to know if a wartime or a genuine relic/pictures exist just to know the colours and material used. Some say it was a decals, some metal...some black with white lettering, some red, some white with red lettering. What about the font used ? Thanks so much in advance regards Maurizio Edited November 5, 2017 by doorgunner
silberpferd
Hello Maurizio, It seems that such a sign appeared very late in the war, if not postwar. On a factory fresh wartime P-51D, you would find at this location a small paper sheet (glued on the panel) giving engine handling instructions for its first ten hours of life most of the time, it was later torn off, with small residues of paper and glue remaining, like on this picture HTH, Laurent
BS_w
the border around flight instruments was white, not yellow
