After the 1/48th kits - Tarangus: link1 & link2; Special Hobby link3  (I'm still waiting the Sk.37 two seats variant Link3), Tarangus is continuing its partnership with Special Hobby (link) with the production of 1/72nd Saab 37 Viggen kits.

NEW VIGGEN IN 1/72 SCALE!

OCTOBER 30, 2017 NO RESPONSES FREDRIK UNCATEGORIZED

Tarangus and Special Hobby are proud to announce a new Viggen in 1/72 scale

For more than 50 years, the Saab 37 Viggen has graced the European skies. Today, it continues to fly with the Swedish Air Force Historic Flight. However, there hasn’t been a new kit in 1/72 scale of this wonderful aircraft for over 40 years. That is about to change!

Tarangus and Special Hobby jointly released a new Viggen kit in 1/48 scale a few years ago. A kit that won “Model of the year” from the German magazine model fan and has been praised by builders around the globe. Now, that kit has been scaled down to 1/72. You will recognise all the crisp and wonderful detail from the larger kit, that’s not all.. An extra level of detail has been added, with for instance separate flaps for the canards, different canards for the attack and fighter versions and a first for a Viggen in any scale, a RAM air turbine!

The kit will hit the hobby store shelves in the first half of 2018!

I know. See link to Special Hobby kit thread in my initial message. My will to separate the Special Hobbby and the Tarangus Saab 37 Viggen threads.

We started molding the 1/72 scale Viggen model for Tarangus. The Tarangus model will be at the end of next month probably. Our models will be six months later.

Is there a difference between Tarangus and Special Hobby kit ?

Basically No. It's a special hobby production . One will sell the A/J-37 and the other, the J/A-37.

And all parts shall be on the sprues for both versions anyway.

Having picked one up pretty much straight from the source I'm sad to say this is not the case in the box. Tarangus boxing only contains the parts to make a JA37, no AJ/SF/SH fin or double seater fuselage included.

So which one should I go for? The Tarangus kit or should I wait for the Special Hobby ones?

I have a feeling that the Special Hobby kits might be a bit less expensive as well. Not by much, but a little bit. I have enough other kits to work on in the meantime that I think I'll wait for the Special Hobby releases.

if you want a JA-37 pick the tarangus, but for the others, you have to wait for special hobby.

I really want to build "Petter Gul" the early 2000s show bird with the two black chevrons on the top. Any rumors of decals coming out for that one?

Cheers,

Hoops

Red Bolt Decals (Max at Rebell hobby) has made Petter gul in 1/72.

It's probably long out of print but if you search for it you might get lucky.

EDIT: it wasn't RED Bolt Decals.

It's Anders Nowotny who has made decals for Petter Gul.
