Tamiya FW-190A-3 1/48th Scale

Recommended Posts

I finished this kit a couple of months ago. Added Ultracast wheels, Master barrels and pitot and blanked over the outboard MG FF ports and changed the under wing access panels to the smaller bulge. Painted with WEM Colorcoats, Xtracrlyix and Humbrol. Eagle Strike decals. Feel free to point out any mistakes.

Great bulit to me, mottling is impressive !.

Thanks. I built it because I needed practice mottling, I've only done a few but never been happy with the result. On this one I thinned the paint just right ( Xtracrylix ) and found I could spray very fine, in fact I was too close to the surface and it came out too tight, so I removed some of it with airbrush cleaner and sprayed it again a bit further away. Anyway it came out OK but I need to do a few more to get comfortable with it.

I am really impressed by your clean paintwork. Thumbs up also for the sharp pictures, what is your setup for taking pictures ?

Antoine

Thanks. I used two LED work lights diffused through frosted plastic sheet. The camera is a Nikon D7000 with 18-105mm lens. The background is a PVC colour grad sheet.

Beautiful work. I'm partial to builds like this that have a clean finish. You said you did the mottling freehand with an airbrush. Did you also do the main camo freehand as well or did you use a mask?

Thanks. It was all done free hand.

Wow - nicely done! Very impressed by the sharp, clean edges of the camo. What brush and sized nozzle were you using?

Thanks. It's an Iwata HP-CS with a 0.35mm nozzle.
