That would be pretty lousy to find out later on.

True.  But if they turn out to be useless, at least I'll have lots of spare track links to put on the top of the tank.

I was going to write a little about the DEF Model upgrade set for the Italeri M47, but just not in the mood. Wasn’t a good week here. I’ll get around to it, perhaps. I should get started on the build in the next few days. My plan is to use the 25% or so allowed before start to get the running gear stuck on, and maybe paint the road wheels, the two most tedious parts of the build. I might be in better shape to finish on time if I can accomplish that. 😐

That would be ok, ive seen the Italeri kit more than once. I know that wont meet the 25% number so you should be ok.

I'm still feeling under the weather, and likely no one will get anything from it, but I'll post pictures and a brief commentary on the DEF Model comprehensive upgrade for the Italeri M47. Some could likely be adapted to the Takom kits, but I've not tried that. As you can see, there is a lot in the set, with resin, photoetch, metal, armor glass stickers, decals, and instructions. Pretty much everything you'd need for a show stopper.

One thing I think is essential included is the gun mantlet dust cover. In service vehicles almost always had this. The metal parts are the exhaust pipes; kind of odd it doesn't include a metal main gun barrel. There's plenty of resin bags and cans for stowage, even a completely canvas covered .50 cal. I'm not sure how much I'll use, if any, on my build here, but in the ten years or so this set has been available, it's your first stop to a super detailed M47.

Besides the main gun barrel being MIA from the set, the other knock I would give is the instructions aren't the best. Three pages, front only, not a lot of details. You will need other references. You're totally on your own for the decals; there is no marking guide at all. There are at least 3 US machines on the sheet you'll have to suss out what goes with what name and serial wise yourself. Also on the sheet is the former Austrian Army M47 that Arnold Schwarzenegger drove as a young lad in the Austrian Army, and later rescued from the scrapper. There are a lot of photos and video of this vehicle out there. To sum up, a very good set, with a few minor quibbles.

Sign me up please,

I'll be trying to do justice to this beast: Magach 7c "Gimel" Israeli version of the M60 Patton.

Hello Scargsy... Welcome to the Build with your Magach 7. This thread should move to the Current Group build area, sometime in the next 48 hours. After that you are welcome to start your thread. If you must do some preliminary work. Just please don't do more than the allowed 25%. The official start time is just over 1 week from today.

Thanks,

Yep I've seen the rules though I think I'll have the opposite problem, still trying to finish off my Panzer IV even though that GB is finished and I've got stuff I'd like to do for the specialist GB (which is currently running, lets see if I could do a quick build in a week).

Have fun in this GB everyone and good luck running things Dennis!

I'm afraid I can't take part in this GB as my butler pranged his drinks' trolley into my Maybach and scratched the custom paintwork. Unfortunately, David Hockney is refusing to repair the damage to his work, saying 'Tough titty! You shouldn't have parked your Maybach in the drawing room!' and I'm having a hard time finding a suitable artist to 'touch-up' the Big Splashes around the wheel arches.

Rearguards,

Woohoo! I scored a 1.72 Revell M60A3!

If anybody else in the US is looking for this kit, you can get one from Internet Hobbies.
They also have a lot of excellent 1/72 armor kits from Ace.

I've purchased from them in the past, and they're very good and prompt. Shop with confidence!

>>>>>>>>I RESCIND MY EARLIER COMMENTS ABOUT INTERNET HOBBIES <<<<<<<<<<<<

It has been more than two weeks now, and my model still has not been shipped. I checked their site and it says they have them in stock, but when I check my order status, I'm told the item is being prepared for shipping. FOR TWO WEEKS.

I emailed them to cancel the order. This has been four days. I have not even received a confirmation of whether or not they received my email.

Bad form, Internet Hobbies. bad form! 😤

Very sorry to hear this SoftScience, as Stix says i truly hope you get this sorted. Im not sure what type of recourse you have in this case. Contact your credit card company/bank to stop payment ? Contact Google to inform them they have a thief operating a website. Possibly so they can block his website from showing ?

I’m just waiting for my kit to come in, I had ordered one a while ago. Unfortunately my LMS thought someone else had ordered it, auto spelling isn’t always the best.

I thought I’d have a try at this 1/48th modelling, the Tamiya kits should be on route.

Actually, Internet Hobbies is one of those places that doesn't have a real time inventory - they just show kits, whether or not they actually have stock, or can even actually get it at all. They're happy to take your money and hold on to it until 'someday' comes, and they miraculously get the kit. Or you get PO'd enough waiting that you cancel the order. I doubt they ever had the Revell 1/72 M60; the kit has been out of production and tough to come by for a while now. There's a reason these guys have terrible reviews online and with the Better Business Bureau. To see actual real time inventory, check a site like Sprue Brothers.

I did send a request to cancel my order - but no response. I don't suppose you know if there is a different contact email I should be going to?
