Panzer VI Tiger STGB Chat

Dates:  18 May 2019 to 18 August

Hi,

Who would be be interested in a STGB covering the ’Tiger Tank’?

The GB would cover all variants of the Tiger Gun Tank and include recovery versions and SPG’s based on the Tiger Chassis in ‘service’ from   1942-1945.

The GB scope would not cover ‘Paper Panzer’ Variants nor WHIFS.

Any kit is acceptable in anyscale. With the usual caveats about previously started kits die casts etc.

Show your interest below.

Cheers

Plasto

Time to put my head above the parapet, hopefully this one can ride the bow wave of the IV STGB.

To cut a long story short it's a chance for us all to build a Tiger!

The qualifying types:

VK 36.01( Henschel prototype)

VK 45.01 (Porsche prototype)

VK 45.02 (2nd Porsche prototype)

Tiger I, initial, early, mid, late. Either fighting or support variants.

Tiger Ii. Either fighting or support variants.

sturmtiger

Jagtiger all variants.

Ferdinand ( built off the VK 45.02 hull)

Elefant ( built off the VK 45.02 hull)

any scale you wish to build.

hopefully we can make the Armour STGB a yearly event.

you can never have to many Tigers in your collection, can you?

No worries about combining the threads, they normally start in GB chat when there is sufficient participants Enzo then moves the into future GBs.

Go on then, in for a penny in for a pound! From no GB's to 3 in as many days!

I have a Tamiya Tiger I initial production, Tiger I late, and King Tiger prod. turret all 1/35th and all waiting in the stash!

Any idea when this is likely to take place?

I am actually ITCHING to start the Tiger I initial.

A question....

How does the Elefant / Ferdinand qualify given its based on the chassis of the Porsche prototype and uses an electromechanical drive which is not related to either the Tiger 1 or Tiger 2 drive train?

I pondered it when I set up my thread but I couldn’t reconcile that it might be pushing the boundary’s of a STGB a bit far....

Thoughts??

Plasto ... In my opinion and from memory. I think the Ferdinand would qualify on the grounds it was part of the original trials for the MK VI Tiger and it also used the tiger turret ? And the Elefant was an offshoot derivative of the same original Porsche designed Ferdinand chassis. Those are my thoughts on it right or wrong ? But it may in fact stretch the idea of the STGB ?

Good question Plasto,

I just thought that as the VK 45.01 hull could have been the tank named Tiger, any off spin of that hull would be good to go. It also gives a nice left and right arc for a STGB.

I'm in for a Tiger GB  I'll be going with a Revosys VK36.01 I reckon . Well for bow at least

:welcome: Jim, nice choice there is one in the armour WiP. It looks a nice kit there was one in my LMS the other week.

Then again by the same standards Plasto raised. The Tiger and King Tiger aren't exactly the same chassis either ? They may share drivetrain components ? Not an expert so im not sure ? But that would make at least the Ferdinand acceptable on the same basis, due to the Turret connection.

Hi,

I think the turret on the Porsche prototype was actually a Krupp turret design?  Simplistically I think the Tiger 1 was a Henschel chassis and a Krupp turret.

The Elefant / Ferdinand is a Casemate tank destroyer based on the Porsche hull and drive train.

Is is that enough to qualify it as part of the Tiger Family??

Conversely the Jagdtiger is a Casemate tank destroyed based on the production Tiger 2 drive train.

I think you can get away with the Tiger 1 and Tiger 2 I’m the same GB as they were both known in service as Tigers

Similarly a mk1 Spitfire is not exactly the same airframe or engine as a mk22

True it was just my thoughts on the subject. Im in no way an expert when it comes to Tigers, KingTigers, or armor in general. I digress to your argument and points about the said types.

The Sherman GB includes both M3 and M4 Hulls which means you can build any Sherman any variant, preist, Sexton, Grant Lee.

its all about making models isn't It?

so I'm all for a questioning culture but I'm on the site to make models primary if the scope of a STGB can push the boundaries then so be it, look at the mirage STGB there was all sorts of variants built for that one.
