Russian Sewing machine in Syria

Recommended Posts

My finished build of Mengs Shilka ZSU-23-4. Model depicted as a tank been used during the Syrian conflict/civil war. Stock build, painted with Tamiya Paints (custom yellow), weathered with lifecolor Liquid dust pigments and Ammo dust pigments. Will be building a suitable dio base for it.

A really curious model, very well batted, like the real ones.
If I have not misunderstood, this was before in MBT ?, and the Shilka has the turret in the center, so it seems a conversion on the field by the troops? ...:goodjob:

Cheers mate :yes:

Nope, they were specifically built as SPAAG's, during the cold war. Lots of different countries then purchased them for their own armies. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZSU-23-4

Looks really interesting and the camo is superb.  Now you need a trailer to carry the ammo this thing burns through in 5 minutes.

Lloyd

LOL, Yep didn't realise they actually had trucks follow them about 1 -1.5km behind with around 3,000 rounds for a battery of four tanks !!. Dont think they were/are that 'greedy' in the streets of Syria though.

I think it is because the turret is pointing towards rear of the vehicle on this model. It makes you think it's positioned different on the hull.

Nice build @brodiebear

what made you position the turret in reverse?

Going to build a base for it,like these;

seems to be quite common in Syria; perhaps faster get away after firing the guns?

Either faster or it's just more useful to run away whilst shooting? 😂😂

I guess the real reason could be like most MBTs they do their transport and difficult inclines/declines with turret backwards to prevent damage or inclusions of dust/mud in to the barrel

Now that makes more sense :-)
