theplasticsurgeon
Joining you with this kit That cost me £6.50 at Portishead show in 1999, and remained in my stash ever since. . . possibly because Flankerman told me it's a rubbish kit, 2 minutes later :-( Edited October 22, 2017 by theplasticsurgeon More info

FortyEighter
Time will tell if this IS a rubbish kit - if so, I'm sure you'll make a silk purse out of a sow's ear!
usetherudders
Got this one built up ready for primer but decided to cut the canards off and use it a a standard SU 27. Bought the Zveda 33 in the stash.
theplasticsurgeon
Busy with other stuff, but here's the cockpit installed into the airframe. Living down to the rubbish fit. Cockpit interior is XColor Azure blue. Seats and stuff are type grey. This is the airframe around it all. Plan is to finish something thike this. 128fiddler
Hi, Nice progress and that cockpit looks good too. Did you use any aftermarket for it? The reference picture you say to finish it alike is from a Su-30MK, to be more exact, the brother or even 'the' ill-fated Paris Flanker in '99. Mind that these colors are never used on a naval Su-33. But offcourse you paint your model like you would like eh 😉

Confirming Tipp-ex, or other correction fluid. Paint it right down into the gap of a seam, allow to dry and harden. Then smooth off with fine wet-n-dry, or with a turps rag. The Flanker isn't quite ready, but here's that stage from my recent Harvard.

theplasticsurgeon
Seams fettled and smoothed, and canards fitted. No location points for these - So I'm starting to see what Flankerman was getting at. theplasticsurgeon
Back with you, having airbrushed the undersides with Humbrol 196 Light Grey. Now on with the masking to protect that from the upper-side colour. I've scaled the colour instructions diagram to model size on a copier - this makes camo patterns a LOT easier to mask. theplasticsurgeon
This is now my preferred method of airbrush masking - to scale and copy the painting plans, then to cut out and mask each colour as I apply it. theplasticsurgeon
This is that Humbrol 165, a slightlly darker grey airbrushed on, and masking prep for the final colour I'm going for my blend of air-superiority on the right. theplasticsurgeon
This is the bit that I really like. Unmasking - seeing it all come together. I think this one went good. theplasticsurgeon
Just now, Valkyrie said: Like that scheme, canopy is nice and clear too crisp work I dunk all my canopies in Johnson Klear early on in the build, to allow plenty of time for it to cure. I've just looked back over a few other GBs - yes it does add a certain something. Onwards and upwards, - she now gets her white bits. Brush painted acrylic in this case.

theplasticsurgeon
And now up onto her pins And canopy properly framed Hoping to call this one before the weekend is over. Does anyone know if the IR sensor ahead of the cockpit on this 'plane? It's 1990 Black Sea trials. The IR sensor shows on the box-art. Crossed off the sprue map. Not shown as being fitted on the instructions - but mysteriously appears on the final stage diagram. Not on paint diagrams either.
