Get Tamiya paint off plane canopy?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Painted the canopy by hand on my Trumpeter Me-262 and kinda messed it up.

What's the best way to get the paint off the canopy?

Thanks

Jack

You could try rubbing the paint off the clear areas with the end of a shaped cocktail stick.

You could wash it with ipa and a soft brush if you've used acrylic paint

I take it you want to remove all the paint and start again that is, otherwise as Nigel has said

If you want to strip all the paint off you could try swabbing it with Fairy Power Spray. I have used that to strip off enamel paint and it's supposed to remove pretty much all other types of paint.

When I am lazy and don't bother masking, I use a toothpick dipped in windex (ammonia based) to take acrylic paint off, or use sharpened sprue to (gently) scratch off enamel paint.

Mr Color lacquer thinners is my go to. Despite smelling the same, Tamiyas lacquer thinners attacks the styrene slightly, whereas the Mr Color stuff never does, so even dried on enamels can be removed safely with it.

I would obviously recommend testing on a bit of the sprue the parts came off first though just to be sure
