Elliott White Springs' Sopwith Camel

This is the second one of Hasegawa's 1:8 Scale Museum Series Camels that I have built. The kit remains the most enjoyable that I have assembled and the multimedia aspects of it call on a lot wider skills than I tend to employ on polystyrene kits. The aircraft is completed in the colours of one flown by the American RFC pilot Elliot White Springs, after he transferred to 148th USAS.

I've built it as an 'engineering example' so deliberately haven't gone in for any weathering or chipping. Likewise the aircraft isn't a 100% copy of EWS' as he had the upper wing cutout enlarged as well as a few other mods. The model has actually been built for a guy in America who liked my first build, detailed on my blog, and asked if he could buy it. Instead I agreed to build the Hasegawa kit he had in his stash for him. Close up the second model has come out quite a bit better than the first, dammit. I thoroughly enjoyed the build though, even second time around, and at least I don't have the storage problem to worry about.

Space on the modelling desk can become a bit tight towards the end of the build.

And here it is with its temporary stablemates. The other half wouldn't have gone for a third hanging up in the lounge anyway!

Oh my.    Utterly utterly utterly...

What sort of mpg do you get out of her?

I dunno, but it'll have to be enough to fly it to America. :D

Ever since I have known scale model and after doing scale modeling for a while, this has to be the epitome of perfect built. Words are less and vague. I simply say you have shivered my spine. Thank you for sharing this work of art. Three cheers

My God! I have heard tell of these kits but I don't have the money for them. They truly are splendid and you have done some terrific work making them come alive.

They aren't as accurate as you might expect,  particularly the Fokker. There is quite a bit of extra work required to overcome the limitations.

On the Camel I ended up scrapping the kit's fin and tailplane and building from scratch.

I would have happily believed you if you had said that it was a full sized walk-around. One of the best models I have ever seen - remarkable!

How the hell are you going to post it!

Please - can we see more photos of the Fokker?

A shipping agent who specialises in art and antiques will collect, pack and ship it by air. For the princely sum of £600. They didn't say if that was 1st or 2nd class!

If you'd like to see pics of the Fokker there are a selection in the Gallery section of my blog, as well as umpteen build updates.  I haven't put them on here as it feels a bit of a cheek doing a cut and paste job, though I've come across a few who do.

The blog is at:  https://mbiqmodels.com/

PS. If the admin have any problems with me referencing my site on here do let know ASAP. I'm not here to plug my site, it's just a lot less effort to reference it.

Outstanding and a thousand other word's of praise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the nice words. And the same to all the others who have commented for that matter.

It was whike researching the Fokker model that I came by my rather arcane knowledge on the Dr.1 that I posted in one of your earlier threads on the Revell model.

Yes,sadly I'm now into week five of not being able to do any modelling so the Fokker has languished with a few other's in the loft room hope to

get going soon!

I'm rather lost for words.  A truly amazing example of modelling.  I suspect your client is gong to be a very happy person.  Right, come on then.  How did you do that natural metal finish?!
