1/72 - Bristol 175 Britannia by Mach2 - released - Air Graphics sets + Canadair CP-107 Argus, CC-106 Yukon & CL-44 conv. sets by AiM

Recommended Posts

Eastern Express had an Argus in their catalogue a few years ago using the 1/96th ex FROG Britannia mould, but it never came to anything, so these AIM conversions will be very welcomne....as long as they don't cost and arm and a leg!!!

Just yesterday, I had received an email from a friend, who wanted to let me know Aircraft In Miniature will be releasing four conversion sets for the Mach 2 1/72 Bristol Brittania kit:

- ref. TWC72029 - CC-106 Yukon

- ref. TWC72030 - CL-44D
- ref. TWC72031 - CL-44J (stretched version)
- ref. TWC72032 - CP-107 Argus

The CP-107 I think will be very popular, I sold several of the Execuform CP-107 when I could get them!

Stay tuned for further news of these conversion sets!

I got really excited to see the announcement about the Argus then less so when I realised how much it was going to cost me.

Given that the donor kit is around the £50 mark (nearer £60 in some cases) and the fact that it is a fair lump of a conversion which I suggest will have a price to match, then it looks like I'll have to pass or sell a lot of the stash.

dont you hate it when you build a "unique" vacuform model and then an injected kit comes out... the Monarch Brit being the case in point.. and I am building the AIM Comet!

You don't fancy building a "unique" vacform 757 or A310 by any chance? It is unfortunate, but I think the amount of effort and skills required to make the vacform and get a decent result at the end are less than those required to complete the Mach2 efforts. I have their Caravelle and keep looking at it every so often, thinking it won't be that difficult but my time is limited and away it goes again. Sad but I'm not sure if it'll ever be built.

Wouldn't the main gear have the full tandem set of main wheels on the ground if the nose wheel is touching?

Delighted that it may soon be possible to build a CP-107 Argus, unfortunately I've noticed that CanMilAir no longer produce their decals. Does anyone know a source for old sets? I seem to remember they were 'made to order' so I'm not hopeful.

Surely AIM will produce decals for these conversion kits, as we can't be expected to 'cobble-together' decals for these?

When I made mine, I used two sets of Lancastor decals, then scrounged numbers and letters for the tail.

The landing gear looks good. Was there some mention about the nose on the Mach 2 kit being slightly wrong? Read something about that but can't find it.
