I'm sure you're going to get a lot of "so jelly" posts! Of which this is one... I'd love one of these but I don't deserve it as it'd end up in the cupboard for a while, I'm really delighted that you've managed to find it *and* you're off building it straight away.

Best of luck! The detail looks good and assuming it all comes together square it should look amazing with your paint skills :)

Why on earth did they use vinyl and not injection plastic?

According to the blurb on the instruction sheet, and I quote

"the NOSTROMO was not suitable for injection. It was too large a kit and too much detail would have had to be compromised. The end result would not have been accurate."

Not much to report, mainly trimming excess vinyl and checking the general fit,Injection molded parts have been primed, and small "windows" (shaped clear sprue) added to the nose.

Its a fairly impressive size when all put together.

Hi Nigel

I've never had a problem with Vinyl,I tend to spray with enamels so an Acrylic based primer is a must. The first vinyl kit I ever got was the Horizon Robocop from Thunderbooks in Blackpool in about 1988 and it still looks as bad as it did when I first painted it!

  • 2 weeks later...

Its really hard to get enthusiastic about a great big grey lump but one must persevere, actually enjoyed painting up the "make rocket go now" bits, masking less so ;)

Amazing! So, worth the $00 or so they're asking on ebay?

That's always going to be a subjective answer:)

Let's just say I paid more for it than any other kit I've ever bought,But i got it at a price that was considerably less than expected.

Oh of course, it's whether you're happy with it that matters. Looking at how it's coming together I can only imagine you are!

Wow, cool subject.

What do you use to glue vinyl?

cheers

Pappy

Super glue works just fine(Well it has so far! :) )

Started to remove the masking and trying out some washes on the main fuselage.
