(I'm holding my thumbs) it's time to look at the lustrous Vixen. It seems that I was sanding, filling, sanding same more and scribing lines. Bah! Let's shoot some grey UMP on it to see how it looks. Ok, now some minro sanding and scribing still to do on this side, and also polishing. A nice smooooth surface is the goal. And maybe order those Quickboost arials and a metal refueling nozzle. perdu Posted April 26, 2018 Share Posted April 26, 2018 That is fine then Crisp thank you Separated and preliminary 'stuff' done to enable 'two part' moulding Three little legs added to the sprues so the wing panel can be sat in a small sea of latex and the moulding can begin Crisp's nautical eye will surely notice a small stress bend on the inner leading edge corner of the far away item this has been de-bent and levelled I may have to advise on slightly more rigid packaging to Crisp but maybe I should shaddap until Crisp gets these safely back home It isn't anything that will show once these are safely nestled in the mainplanes of their aeroplanes When I was planning this part of the casting I considered doing both halves at the same time but with the setting and pot times of a mix of resin being so short I have decided 'no short cuts' so the equal height criterion has evaporated Still a picture shows that something has been happening and maybe why a double fill isnt a good idea These are close but get no cigar more tomorrow but as its our offspring's 51st too not a lot will get done whilst we're in Sandiacre for lunch ciao 6 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

perdu Posted April 27, 2018 Share Posted April 27, 2018 (edited) A little update Crisp's bravely volunteered wing sections adrift in a sea of pale violet Fear not, the small dots of rust did not come off my creaky old fingers Honest, they came off a handy old exhaust clamp I needed to use to hold the pieces in place whilst I sorted out some more weights Paint jars I think The rusty flakes have now gone fear away, its 'bin day' here today I have to get new stocks in to make castings, couple of days probably which will give this all the cure time it will need When this is set I will be spraying the whole thing with a silicone release agent which will be drying ready for part two's mould to be cast. "Real life" (Sorry, I should probably say Battletech was released for PC) has had a nasty habit of getting in the way. Fear not, some modelling activities hae been performed anyway. We had our annual Speed Modelling competition at the local club, which was the usual fun & games, even though we did only have 6 starting members. This years kit was this 1 Hour an 53 minutes later I had my Admiral Barge done I failed to make a good wingfold, and there was no time for weathering, but I did add seatbelts! perdu Posted May 22, 2018 Share Posted May 22, 2018 Well this has taken me some time, but I think we can go ahead and cast from that mould Firstly Christer I am sorry this has taken such a long time but waiting for fresh materials is only part of the saga (Other parts of the excuse are available on my builds of Gannet and Buccaneer, I have been significantly old...) Anyway yesterday I attempted a trial run of one panel, slow me to present the inner part of the port wing under side Before I proceed I will have to admit it isn't pretty, a zillion mini air bubbles were unable to get out from under the surface as the latex cured against, sadly the outer skin face Here though is a view of the upper in the mould, inner section which is not intended to travel across the North Sea A couple of unattended air bubbles were trapped inside my full panel casting The next run will have none of these If I was making this in a hurry I think I could actually use this given some added filler, anyway it seems I 'got' the inner ribs reasonably well The myriad of bubbles doesn't show very well in these low-res (taken on my tablet) pictures but a wash of Mr Dissolved putty may be all they need to be usable In all cases the white piece is of course, the resin piece Anyway, as a test of concept this will do for me Christer will it work for you? 7 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

perdu Posted May 22, 2018 Share Posted May 22, 2018 Second shot at these Abject failure, holes everywhere and a massive lesson learnt I moulded both halves within a discarded ice cream tub to save on latex Yesterday I just attempted to mould inside one of the sections Kinda worked but a little more care needed (it cleaned up nicely when I de-flashed the casting) Today I thought I'd be cleverer, cast both halves at the same time Not clever, both half sections ended up too thin by miles Back into foundry once more chaps, one at a time please.. 😕😠😬😕😠😢😣😥😦😨😩😰 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

This lunar landscape comes from tiny trapped bubbles, luckily it is very shallow and easily smoothed lived without losing the engraved detail The other piece of trash ready for the bin...
