Rick Brown
Here we go then! I'll be starting out with something simple and pretty much out the box. This the old KP L4 kit. Usual runner shot. It'll need quite a bit of weight in as many places as possible me thinks! That's four .177 pellets in each tiny float. There'll be some lead behind the firewall too. Well this is going pretty well: It's darn small and my magnifier lamp has blown! CPC to the rescue. This thing really is small, especially after concentrating my time on 1/32 so far this year: I must say I'm very impressed with this old kit. Very little flash and everything fits well. The instruction are a bit vague in places but nothing to taxing. The decals look a bit iffy too, but this will be done as a civvie with home printed decals anyway. Here's a taste of the other potential build: I hope I get time! Rick.
greggles.w
Great - minuscule - but great! Careful though, that BV222 would eat this for breakfast ...
jrlx
Hi Rick, Welcome to the GB! Nice choice, that little floatplane and it seems to build itself fast too I wish you luck and would love to see the 1/32 Piper floatplane as your second entry Cheers Jaime
Rick Brown
Things stalled a bit for life stuff, but now making a start again. I've now hit the only real problem with the kit so far. The wing/canopy build. One of those times when you need 2 pairs of hands! I'll have another go at the weekend. Rick.
Rick Brown
A bit has been going on in the background. I've been away at times, so progress has been slow. Slap a bit of paint on: A Cub HAS to be yellow! I've strengthened the float supports as the kit ones are very weak. I'm painting it in modules as I think this'll make the complex canopy build a little easier. It'll also help with the decal placement. The draft decal sheet can be seen. Rick Brown
Zero work done in the last few months. Modelling taken a back seat to make way for life! Hope to bung it together soon. Rick.
jrlx
Hope you can get back to modelling soon, Rick. We all know how real life tends to get it the way. Cheers Jaime
Rick Brown
Ok, calling this a wrap. Managed to get a bit of free time over the last few days between eating too much and dozing in the chair. Printed the decals. Gloss coat and decals on: This thing is really small! Not a great finish, but you can hardly see it in this size! Rick.
jrlx
Hi Rick, glad you managed to get back to it and finish it! Looks really good, no blemishes to point out from this end of the net Congrats! Looking forward to seeing it in the gallery! Cheers Jaime
Rick Brown
I'll upload to the gallery over the weekend. Been busy condemning the washing machine, so times been tight! Rick.
Rick Brown
As predicted, it is a tail sitter! You just can't get enough weight in the front. I may well plonk it on a watery diorama at some point. Altogether it was a nice, pretty straight forward build with only a little filler needed. With a bit of effort there's plenty of room for improvement if you fancy a bit of scratch building. The weak points were the internal framework (binned) and float struts (replaced with brass rod). The box decals (not used) looked pretty poor too. My worries about the canopy (four pieces) was completely unfounded. Both sides on first, followed by the windscreen then the top (after the wing had been pre-glued to it) caused no problems at all. The framing was a little fiddly to paint though. But this kit cost about £2, so I can't complain! Sorry I couldn't build the 1/32nd version in time, maybe next GB. Rick.
AndyBunney
Surely G-M....... registrations were only used on microlights. Certainly were in the days I was building full size kit planes and microlights. Loving the build though. I have a KP J3 Cub in 1/72 to do at some point. Rick Brown
It was based on my Uncles Escapade. He built it a number of years ago and we had a great deal of fun in it until he sold it on then sadly he died. Just Google G-MCUB. He always wanted a genuine Cub. Rick. Not come across the Escapade before but it looks very much like the Mosler N3 Pup which Brian and I built in our Meridian Ultralight days G-MWEA
