theplasticsurgeon
Full size fibre-glass replica Gloster E28/39. There's another copy at Farnborough. I've heard loads about the replica, but not seen the outside ones. It's a full size model kit, same basis as our replica at Jet Age. Jet Age's replica was made by John Radcliff, who gave us a talk about it one Club Night. Same moulds as those on the roundabouts. This one has been to Fairford for one RIAT. I can't really say why any replicas were made in the first place. If I was making moulds - I'd want to make hundreds of them. I did ask if any more could ever be made - receiving a negative reply. All the techniques described were very familiar to me - a model maker. There's a seam mid way up the fuselage - very well concealed with filler. Metal frame inside, and plywood bulkheads - well it doesn't need to fly. But best of all, the canopy is crash-moulded. I assumed it was glass-fibre, but no idea really.
Alfisti
Apparently its made from GRP around a metal frame. It was refurbished last year.It sits on the roundabout between Lutterworth and Rugby, only a 5 minute walk from the Fox Inn at Lutterworth. Certainly the coolest looking roundabout I know of.
