Do these work ? Look to be the correct markings ? Just in Australia, maybe you can find a set locally ?

Hi Phreaks

As my current build is going well I'll be a late entry. I'd like to do option 4 from the soon to be re-released Hi Decal sheet Option 4

What would get me this in 1/48th please? My local shop has the Italeri kit in stock just like THIS ONE is it a decent starting point?

Built it as a teenager and managed to pick up another a couple of years ago.

Hope you decide to do this, will it be with the kit decals?

Sadly a different airframe that didn’t wear the red tail, though I might be able to scratch the serial and code letters so that sheet might be ok, though I’ve had nightmares with that brand before

It will - And if they're no good then I have a set of aftermarket Bicentennial ones that I got before finding the Esci kit...

Looks like it is time to drag some kits out of the stash and decide which to build, I fancy a colourful USN/USMC jet or one of the drone conversions.

Then again there are a few F-4Es crying out to be built.   So many F-4s, so little time (and other GBs to be going on with).

Does anyone know if there are 1/72nd decals for Australian F-4E's ? I would like to do one in the future.

I've dealt with Southern Sky a number of times, always been a pleasure. He has an ebay shop too, if you want the name I'll look it up.

+1 on Southern Sky - Great to deal with :)

@PhantomBigStu

On a slightly different note, Would it be Okay for me to join this GB?

I have a USN F4J that I started (only got as far as addressing the cockpit, some what) so should fall

well inside <25% ? This was for the Carrier GB about this time last year

The model in question is this one

Thanks

Had it in the back of my mind that this was months away.  Still finishing my last GB entry (which officially finished 6 months ago but I was the one mad enough to choose a scratch built 1/350 ship!).  Suspect I'll be a late starter on this.

Of course there is also the option of buying direct

Would love to join this GB but realistically I'm way over committed and not a great track record of starting let alone finishing!

However found these photos when trying to find some evidence of Phantoms on RN Carriers after being told which RN Carriers had been cleared for operating the Phantom and didn't necessarily believe it.

So the first one I found was this one of HMS Victorious in 1965

https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205164877

and the this one of HMS Hermes in 1963 (? seems a bit early?)

and as if any further inspiration was necessary these videos of "real" British Phantoms involved in the initial trials on HMS Eagle

https://www.britishpathe.com/video/extra-hms-eagle/query/HMS+Eagle

https://www.britishpathe.com/video/phantoms-on-hms-eagle/query/HMS+Eagle

Now I reckon if these three (or four if any evidence of the first on "Ark" can be found) can be identified they would make a great theme trio (or quattro as the case may be?).

So does anyone have any more information than what can be gleaned from the above with respect to aircraft details and following that any hints on decals that may be available or can be modified to depict these?

HMS Hermes in 1963? F4B USS Ranger VF-96 620? on the nose 940 on the rear body.

HMS Victorious in 1965 F-4B USS Ranger VF-92? 208? on the nose

HMS Eagle (haven't looked for details as just wanted to watch the video over and over again!)

As far as kits go (all 1:72 of course) I may have a Fujimi "B" (or maybe it's an "N"?), probably not a Hasegawa "B/N" (think I've got just about all of the other boxings except for this one!), and of course multiple Fujimi Spey Phantoms to chose from (including the hi-grade boxings) so sort of under control.

I’ll be joining in but not just yet - too many GBs going at the same time! I’m away at the moment, once I’m back and have made enough progress on the F-104 I’ll start on a Phantom. I have 3 options - all 1/48 Hasegawa - Iranian RF-4E, Texas ANG F-4E and F-4G in Euro 1 camo. Might get 2 done, I doubt I’ll have time for all 3.
