JOCKNEY
I have really been looking forward to this Group Build, so it's only right that I should try build something a bit special. So here it is the Contrail Blackburn Perth, the largest Biplane Flying boat ever to see service with the RAF. Until I am corrected by someone with more knowledge anyway ! Pictures below to show it's not been started and despite my best intentions of cutting the parts out of the backing sheet, have done two other Group builds, I haven't got round to it. The decal look past it so, thanks to the interweb I have got in contact with someone in Russia, who is printing some, including the footprints for going on the wing ! This is only the second vacform I have ever attempted, my last one turned out much better than I hoped, but this is huge compared with it. Good luck to everyone on this GB, look out for Bristol Boy who is building the Blackburn Iris, which is the convertible version of this aircraft. cheers Pat

Maybe foolish is more accurate I am hopefully following your example with some of the build you have completed recently. Terrified of all those struts and rigging. But plenty to do before that stage cheers Pat
Murdo
Wooo... This should be interesting! What are the lantern shaped parts on the engines, exhaust shrouds or something?
TheBaron
Go it Pat - that looks a shapely aircraft indeed ! Good luck. Tony

Mostly it is about dry fitting, sanding, puttying and sanding again

jrlx
Hi Pat, Welcome to the GB and I must say you're a courageous lad for choosing this big vacform model! I wish you the best of luck! Thanks for the video of the real thing. These were really magnificent machines! Cheers Jaime
SeaPlane
Pat Brave, foolish, ambitious, adventurous - whatever, I wish you well. That looks a great plane, so very typical of the era and the style whether it be Supermarine or Shorts or Blackburn. Only 4 made it into service and not only was it the largest biplane flying boat in the RAF but also the most heavily armed - the real thing that intrigues me about them was the 37mm COW gun carried in the front for anti-shipping attack, a gun which pushed out a one and a half pound shell at a rate of 100 rounds a minute!! Trust you'll be modelling that along with the 3 Lewis MG that went with them, plus the 2000lb bomb load? Have a great deal of fun - shall be watching closely Regards Andrew

To get a taste of the 37mm version, see below cheers Pat

Rob G
Eh? I'll assume that you mean the football (soccer) team, and let you in on a secret... I don't even follow the footy codes HERE, which admission in this Great Southern Land is tantamount to a confession of being of an alternative gender attraction. Back when I could be bothered to get up early enough to watch the Cup Final, I sort-of supported Man.U, but only in a half-hearted-long-distance-no-team-strip kind of way, and there was no rhyme nor reason for my fandom; no family connection to the area, never been there. Some things defy logic. That was back in the mid 80s, and I haven't given a serious thought to football since. So no, I'm not a Spurs fan.

Ray S
This looks to be a great project Pat. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did with the Contrail Shorts Singapore III that I did for a GB a couple of years ago. Look forward to seeing this. TonyTiger66
Great to see you tackling this one Pat . It's a stunning aircraft, worthy of a good model. It looks to be a nice comprehensive kit, with the interior bulkhead templates an instrument panel and white metal parts. I get the feeling that this kit could have been quite specialist and expensive in its day. Good luck with it, it looks like everything is there to make a good model and have some fun . Best regards TonyT PS: I feel you may need to make strong wing spars .
