hi all,

This is the 1/48 Academy MH-53E Sea Dragon using Wolfpack decals and after eleven months, it's finally finished.

The work in progress is here if you want to see everything that's inside (that you can't really see on the finished thing!).

As you can see from the pictures, it's a bit too big to take decent images of, but at least they give you an idea.

Hope you like it

Oh yes....that's a belter. Love it.

Am going to read the WIP this weekend!

Thanks very much Dermot. Glad you like it and i hope you enjoy the WIP too.

It's a very good kit in terms of fit. It's just that the detail is a bit lacking

Hi Red Dot,

fantastic work and lots of it. What went wrong with you to go so deep in to the details? We will never know :-)

Next year i will try to give you a hard time in the Telford Japan Trophy ;-)

Greetings and Chapeau

Love your model, it turned out really great! I'll build exactly the same one one day, just in the process of sourcing the parts for it. A shame these are being phased out with the JMDSF, just so much more "presence" than Merlins that replace them...

Cheers

Superb result Andy, very well done mate!

Love the weathering, especially the cleaned parts.

Cheers Craig. I'll bring it along to the meeting on 13 October so you can see it. If you aren't there, we can sort out a meet up date

Great Sea Dragon :penguin: ... I've been near a US version and these things are big.

I know what you mean. I plan to put a figure next to it on the display to show a bit of scale. Thanks very much

Hi Jeffrey,

They have gone already from the JMSDF, in May i think. It's a good kit but just needs a bit of detail adding. The Wolfpack add-ons are good but i'm sure you could do better ^_^

cheers

Hello Red,

Job well done. Impressive in real and in model.

Had the pleasure of taking a ride in one of these giants.

It is unbelievable how steady they are in flight. It takes three fingertips to keep control.

Regards, Orion / The Netherlands.

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but first, what a gorgeous bird! I really want to do one of these, they are incredible machines that defy all logic when they fly, especially when they carry another aircraft from a sling!

Anywho, I did have a question that maybe you can answer. I have been wanting to do the MH-53E  mine clearing kit, and I wondered if all the awesome aftermarket that lists under the CH version will also fit the MH kit? There is no clear connection that I can find, usually I use scalemates, but all the aftermarket goes to the CH there as well. Very confused. Worst comes to worst, I will just build the CH version, the aftermarket resin upgrades are too tasty to skip!

Love the weathering you did, looks amazing! I may want to pick your brain for some tips, what was troublesome, what should I build out of order, that kind of stuff.

Thanks,

Anthony

Hi Anthony,

I sent a reply to your PM but for the record, the only aftermarket I used was the set from Wolfpack for the seamless exhausts only and the Eduard brass set, both of which are great

Black Dog Reain do some sets now that weren't available at the time.

You will need to check internet photos for what is and isn't fitted between the CH and MH (the US versions also differs in kit fit to the JMSDF version) Sea Dragons.

As I said in my other reply, all other details were scratch built straight from photos of JMSDF helicopters, so I know they were correct but I don't know about US versions really. Plenty of good pictures out there though.
