1/72 Revell Hu-16 USCG Albatross - DONE

Recommended Posts

Hi Dermot!

Welcome to the GB! That's a great looking choice! The Coast Guard livery is always an attention grabber :)

Good luck!

What a great choice Dermot. I've been trying to get hold of this kit for years!

It's not easy to find at a nice price.

Looking forward to this

All the best

Thanks everyone.

So while the windows are tiny on this thing and not much will be seen, I'm going to put in some very basic floors/bulkheads so there's something in there to fill the space.

Just some very average plastic-bodging to follow - please don't look too closely!

Cheers,

Dermot

Nice one Dermot.

I built one, well ages ago - and wrote this Article about it.

Great opportunity for me to revisit it.

Cheers Tim and have read that article more than once - great reference to have, thank you!

Can you remember if you put any weight in it? If so, how much?

Cheers,

Dermot

No mention of weight in the Monogram instructions, so none in my model.

Ok, thanks for the update!

I am pretty sure I added weight to mine ... just in case

Great thanks!

On a more general question, I'm thinking of sanding back most if not all the rivets on this. Does anyone know if they should be completely gone? Or just reduced in size so they're not so prominent?

Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

Cheers,

Dermot

Pretty sure I have two or three of these, and don't ask why... I want to do a Thai Navy one and Greek one, but the other if I have it, no idea.... great subject.... looking forward to seeing it done.

So finally something to show on this one..

Here's one side after sanding off as much of the rivet detail as possible and then some rescribing. This also got a blast of grey primer to check everything..

And not that any of it will be seen , some basic internals - up front, a scrap instrument panel, bulkheads and new seats while in the back, a bench seat and other bits - the port side door will be open but again, kinda small so really just to take the bare look off everything.

Will try to get it all joined up this weekend.

Cheers,
Dermot
