John Aero
I think that finally I have the measure of this very odd photo site, it really is a dumb site. It would seem that if you choose private, Flickr will not let you post on other sites so you have to go public. This means all your photos can be seen by anyone. If I'm right after posting if you go back and delete the picture from Flickr it stops access to your other pictures. John
SleeperService
There seems to be some confusion here. Posting a picture on plop-buket then linking it to a thread and then deleting it from PB will not keep it alive. All it will do is put up a 'no image' icon. Images on BM are a 2-part process; 1) You need to load your image onto the Interweb. This means a blog post, tumblr, photo hosting or, if you can your own website. BM does NOT store the images, when you open a page the background and text are pulled from the BM server(s) and the images are pulled in from where-ever the link you posted takes the picture processing subroutine. 2) When posting an image the best way (for Mike's sanity as well as being elegant) is to use the insert other media button below. First open another tab go to your photo get it to display as you want then right click and grab the 'copy image location' button. Put this into the address box and you're done. If you want to ensure privacy then use albums for each forum you visit containing folders for each thread as note below. These folders can be set public even if your overall setting is private. But.... Post a thread on your forum BM (or whatever) then add in the image adjusting settings until you find the required result, that done make a note of the settings until you remember them. One way or another that's what everybody does. Once you're happy use the Full Editor and delete the thread. No matter what you do providers do fiddle so don't be surprised if occasionally you have to do another trial session. On your photo site set up albums for each thread in that thread's name when you've finished copy the album back to your computer. If there's a repeat of the PB ransom demand it's simple to restore everything. If you use multiple forums do this for every one and have a folder for each forum which contains all the threads for that forum only. Apologies if this is seen as insulting but I spend a lot of my time sorting out people who's online-organisation is the equivalent of a big cardboard box with everything thrown in. This is the bare bones of what I do for them and I hope it helps you.
John Aero
Thank you for the extra info. Yes I agree that this will not work for Photo Bucket, as deleting in PB wipes it off BM. But if you post a photo from Flickr to BM then go back to FkR and delete it the image stays on BM but when you click on it, it doesn't open up your Photostream. Again setting up albums on PB was easy whilst albums on Flickr seem to be instantly open to all and sundry. I have still a Photo bucket pro account and that is a dream compared to the imbecilic Flickr. John
John R
I am in total agreement with John about FlickR. For all its foibles PB was good as the albums could have the same arrangement as that on my computer but I have yet to find another site which allows this. If anyone knows of a site that has a sensible file structure please let me know. I just wish I didn't think $399 was a lot of money! John Aero
It has occurred to me that as we are all moaning and spitting feathers at the loss of Photobucket, I wondered how many of us have actually sent in a reasoned language request to PB to perhaps think again, tirades won't work. I have written of the damage and disruption that their decision is doing to specialist forums and that rather than wanting an inflated sum for 3rd party hosting which will drive away even people already paying for small pro sites (I think mine costs me something like £20 a year) and that the 'free sites' with 3rd party, be discontinued and every one pays a reasonable sum to use Photobucket to continue with 3rd party hosting. I also pointed out that at one point I had hundreds of photos uploaded for my use on aviation based sites, but I was still only using a small percentage of my bandwidth, and how much does an individual person actually need. Perhaps I've got it wrong but to me it means more spread income and lesser allotted bandwidth per customer. So why not email Photo Bucket Customer Services John
John Aero
In addition to the above. I've just been on my Photo Bucket site and now I notice that there is 'A survey', could there be a glimmer? Be nice. John

If anyone knows of a site that has a sensible file structure please let me know. I'm fairly certain that Zenfolio does/did that. It was certainly fully flexible about custom structure anyway. I used to use it when I was keen on photography. It was £30 per year then, but seems to start at £5 per month now. EDIT: Someone on another forum just suggested Fotki to me. I'd forgotten about that one. It might be suitable and the homepage says that it's after disgruntled PB users. Greg B
Ladies and Gents, Lately, we are seeing more and more threads started in here regarding subjects that are clearly modelling related and not related to this forum, or its software as is indicated in big red letters at the top of the thread area. I, like the other mods monitor this area closely to see if there are major issues such as DDoS attacks, software faults etc., so as soon as we get a message that there is a support issue in here, take time out of our lives to look at it. It it is an irritant that repeatedly a small number of members cannot take the time to scroll through the forums to see where their question should be placed and instead place gems such as: Paint thinning ratios spare parts requests airbrush issues what colour the undersurface of Spitfire XXXXX was on this day...... i cant access forum www.XYZ can you help me? etc. From this point onwards, as a fair warning, topics that do not belong here will be deleted. We are not wasting further time moving subjects around the forums. Many thanks to the vast majority of you who do take the time and consideration to check before posting. Mark
Hi Greg, the Piaggio is 'loud and clear' but your previous post has the standard Photobucket 'Please update your account.... blah blah' Lovely pic of the Avanti though!! I've also visited my own PB account and there is no mention of the survey, just links to upgrade. Mike, how easy / expensive would it be to allow users to upload to the Britmodeller site? cloggydog
Apologies if this is old news, but I found a solution to the PB issue for Firefox and Chrome users via another forum. There are plug-ins available for Mozilla Firefox and Chrome browsers which will reinstate the PB images on any forum you view (assuming the poster hasn't taken them down/deleted their PB account) - I've downloaded and tried the Chrome one and can say it definitely works. I did check the plug-in for malware/viruses/etc and it's clean. Mike
46 minutes ago, Mark said: Cheers Cloggy.... Do you know if you can still publish new pictures? Seems to be working for me today Mark, but it's a bit of a risk in case PB manage to break functionality in the future, so I'd definitely recommend using another host going forward. Look at the work-around browser add-in as a fix for the historic pics, but consider PB dead to us going forward... unless you feel like throwing $400 of your hard-earned away each year, which I'd imagine most of us don't
cloggydog
5 hours ago, Mark said: Cheers Cloggy.... Do you know if you can still publish new pictures? Not sure - these plug ins are simply allowing other's PB-hosted photos to appear in historic forum threads, rather than the clock of doom. As Mike points out, better to use an alternative hosting site for any photos going forward, but this does at least 'fix' many older threads and posts for users of Firefox and Chrome Edited September 12, 2017 by cloggydog clarity
