Driving up from Devon on M5 this morning I saw a Triumph Spitfire , hood down and a big coat driving it. ( There may have been a person in it

Also saw an Austin 1100 on a trailer that was badly in need of a restoration

He sold it as is... Didn't notice the headlight to be honest, maybe I was high on the exhaust fumes. He left it overall white as he included a very nice full set of red speedblock transfers with optional Gauloises and Marlboro sets. Of course the buyer would have to paint the bike blue or fluorescent red for the last two. £££.

Alfa 8C in a metallic red, in my local High St (Berkhamsted). Sounded fabulous, despite being stuck in slow moving traffic.

The first one I’ve ever seen, despite them being around for quite a few years now.

On a roundabout on the outskirts of Kelso an AEC Militant belonging to a fairly local garage. It looked fairly well used and had been through a fair amount of mud recently. 

It was a Militant 1 by the way with the Matador like radiator, so must have been pretty old and had oversize tyres.

Two spots today,

First, a Ford Zephyr from about 1962.

Dark blue and in lovely condition.

This was just South of Lincoln.

 

Further out, on the way to Louth.

A Rover P6 (2000) also in lovely condition.

It was light brown and had an M registration plate.

Good day today. Amongst many others, we followed a Jag XK120 a good chunk of the way over to Bicester Heritage, then on the way back stuck in the queue next to a Ferrari F40. Needless to say, even though I didn't think to take the camera, I still got quite a few shots on the phone.

 

Given that I'm nearing the end of the Trabant build, it seemed an appropriate day to take some photos of nice examples of rubbish cars built by communists:

There was also an FSO Polenez, but I didn't see it until leaving and it was too far away to catch with the phone camera :(

 

I did seem to be in a mood for taking pics of the cars we all used to see on the road, but which have now pretty much disappeared. There is some more western metal in the album if anyone fancies a look:

Nice collection of pictures.

I drove one of those Wartburgs once. They had a built in freewheel so less strain on the two stroke engine.

Going downhill can be a thrill if you don't know about it!

The Pontiac Parisienne is nice, and I swear I saw that Ford Station wagon in Bawtry a few months ago.

I like the orange Ford Consul/Granada. Wider wheels than standard I think. It looks good on them.

Model railway in your Moggie thou boot? What else?

It's been a long time since I saw an Innocenti Mini too.

I'd have to agree with you that they look to be wider wheels than normal. This one was a 3.0 GXL, or at least it was badged as such. We did wonder while there whether it was originally a South African car - can't confirm one way or the other.

No, not strange at all. There were quite a lot of exotic cars there, both classic and modern, which didn't attract my eye as much as some of those. I didn't even get pictures of quite a few of the 'normal' cars there including Mk1 Astra, Mk1 Cavalier, Nova, Mk IV Cortina, MkV Cortina (saloon and estate), and I'm sure I saw a Lada Niva lurking somewhere in there too. Lovely to see some of the more unloved cars getting an airing - that Maestro is probably the best looking one I've ever seen, including when they were new. Now one year, I will make it to the Festival of the Unexceptional...

No, definitely not! :) I think that could be true of many of the cars in the pic too though!

Today, around 11:40 on the A170 between Pickering and Scarborough and about one minute apart.

 

An M reg Audi 80. Not perfect but it looked in decent condition. Oh, it was 70's brown.

An L reg Datsun 240Z. Perfect condition and in white. Both cars were heading West.

I like this Ford Consul very much.

My Dad ordered one in Sebring Red, a bright red, threw away the original dog-dish caps, lowered a bit and it looked cool. I was a kid these days,but were proud because one of my friends dad owned a Ghia 3.0 Granada and my friend was jealous because our 1.7l 4stroke looked much cooler... Money can't create style if you don't know what it is...😎😆😂

Hey Pete, it"s quite normal you didn't see one of these for a long time. Just because replacement metalsheet was not available for this car. My mom had a white one with pink pinstrippring, and a friend found out that Citroen CX panels could be used for some places, but only with much creative works, and no one wanted to this Work at these days.

OK it was my fortune, the day the body was weak, I could swap the engine( 1275cc 70hp) into my Mini..🤗😆😆

Nowadays I would like to own an Innocenti

I thought it would have been good if the British Mini had been updated with the Innocenti body.

Instead we got the Mini Clubman, which really fooled no one. 

Although it gave better access to the engine when it needed fixing!

Okay, yes it was better looking but really was a cheap update for BL.

I vaguely remember seeing better looking designs for the update at the time.

And there was a lot of car magazine correspondence regarding using the Innocenti shell.

I think though there were questions regarding it's safety? It was long time ago.

If it was less safe than a classic Mini already was, it must have been completely lethal! I wouldn't venture out on today's roads in our Clubbie if it didn't have a full Safety Devices cage with dash bar, seam welded shell, welded in seat mounts, Cobra rally seats and 4 point full harness belts ....!! :)

You know we did produce some howler's over the year's and it's easy with hindsight to find fault but when I transitioned from bike's to car's

around 1990 money was tight and after a couple of real death traps we decided to buy a two year old Maestro for what was then a fair chunk

of money(£1000) gotta say had it three year's travelled all over never a breakdown or a non start,roomy inside and load's of space under the bonnet

to work on(remember the day's of servicing your own car) written off after three year's by someone who didn't see the red Light I was standing at as

a stop gap bought a friend's  Mum's Maestro Vanden plas 1.6 auto another comfy and smooth drive.

Cars were so much simpler back then . I ve got a 66 plate Gold GTD and spent an entire afternoon setting everything up to my personnel choice . The only sophistication in my early cars were the radios ! I owned MK 2 Escort , two Nova's and a Fiesta back then .
