Spot of the Day Part 2

Recommended Posts

Just gone past the house a stunning looking maroon VW T2 panel van, only caught a quick glimpse but it looked like it was newly sprayed. We've got a diversion past us due to roadworks at the moment, so hope to see it again!

Must have been McLaren day today as I saw 3 MP4s on the M25 and M40, along with a Lamborghini Huracan.

As long as the moderns, a Rover P5 and a Hillman Super Minx convertible.

A pristine Bristol VR in traditional green with white stripe on the A41 coming out of Birkenhead. No titles. For something that used to be so ubiquitous in my neck of the woods with Crosville I can’t temember the last time I saw one.

Walking through my local park today, and discovered that there was a car show on. So naturally, instead of an afternoon of DIY, I had an afternoon wandering round a surprisingly good selection of old cars. I think it's fair to say today has been a good day :)

Here's a few from the show, I'll put up a link to the album at the bottom of the post. All pics are off my phone as I didn't have the decent camera, and I struggled to see sometimes what with the sun on the screen, so the composition of a few is a little out (at least that's my excuse!)

@Spiny Many thanks for posting that lot.

Some fabulous Americana there.

Too many favourites to pick just one!

My spot for today was Eastbound on the A17 around midday.

A Mercedes SL in green on a G plate, so a '69. (like this one)

Probably the prettiest car Mercedes ever made.

I know what you mean, don't think I could pick my favourite either. One thing I do know though is that it's local shows like this which demonstrate just how much gorgeous old metal is hidden away in various garages and barns just waiting for a sunny day.

And, since it's spot of the day, today as many days I saw a '66 El Camino in rust-brown on the way into work (not rusty, just rust coloured matt paint).😍

Just outside Horncastle, early this morning on a country lane.

A green Ford Consul in very nice condition.

Just like this one in the link.

Somebody further up the road has a Rover 100 ( a Metro with delusions of grandeur) . Looks immaculate in Nightfire Red , which is rather a surprise since most of them collapsed in a rotting heap long ago . Always had a bit of a soft spot for the Metro , since I learnt to drive in one and my mum had one as well . My mum's was hearing aid beige , but she bought it new so she must have actually wanted that colour- she must have been mad .

My dad had two of those. That one seems to be a blend of the two colours he had. Dorchester Grey, and Lichfield Green. The second was one of the very last made. He didn't go for the Mk II as it wouldn't fit in the garage. I drove Mk IIs as taxis in the early seventies on Saturday nights. Good earner when the dance hall kicked out. Just turned the radio off and made extra trips!

I need this car more than food and drink.

This reminds me of my brother's 2-door Escort estate of this type (seriously) in silver too. I was in excellent condition until he put it through a brick wall on Broadfields Estate.

All the best.

The trip home from Sydney this morning produced a veritable cornucopia of automotive pulchritude - a gaggle of Corvettes of various vintages, two Austin-Healeys (a 1000 and a 3000 rally replica in metallic blue[!]), a gorgeous maroon Citroen Traction, several Mustangs, a Peugeot 206 GTi (the only one I've ever seen in Australia) and the inevitable Highway Patrol car (but only one of them, and its driver was busy breaching the driver of a Disco heading back towards Sydney, so he didn't bother me!).

Three classics on the M25 and M40 this evening:

  • Original Lotus Elan
  • Late model Alpha Spyder
  • Jensen CV8

And this morning on the M40 an MGA, and not forgetting the Volvo P1800 in the office car park!
