OK,  Last minute entry here chaps. I have read the rules and this seems like a bit of fun, so I thought I would tag along.

In the spirit of things, I have gone through my stash and found this

Now, the eagle eyed amongst you will see two kits here so this should be interesting.  I will probably build OOB, but add seatbelts to at least one of the kits from tape or foil.  I also intend to stick a pilot into one of these just to be different.  As you can see I am just about to start, so there is no food report just yet.  Music will be courtesy of EPIC MusicVN with side trips to Two Steps From Hell, Joe Blankenberg and Dwayne Ford.

Off we go!

Not the best of starts, managed to spray the primer on all sprues, but my air brush is spitting like a cat caught by the tail and the compressor is warm enough to cook my dinner. I will fully strip the brush and try new needles to se if that helps.  Fortunately I can crack on with some construction in the meantime

Ok, I managed to get my airbrush working again :party:so that is a bit of a plus.  SWIMBO is busy making tea downstairs (what love) allowing me to continue to inhale paint and glue fumes.  I think an update is in order, so this is where I am at the moment.

The main areas of green are on, an details have been picked out in the cockpit area.  I need to concentrate on making sure everything is ready to go when I close up the fuselage halves so any missed items will have to be blamed on the carpet monster.

I am going to be taking a break for lunch around now (pics to follow), so will pick up later.  My intention is to have both kits ready for main colours before the evening comes to a close.  This will give me a good start in the morning.

A nice start. Glad you got the airbrush working.

Will you need tea, what with all the paint & glue fumes.

That looks slightly too healthy for a BM GB meal. I think you need Black Forest Gateau to follow ;)

Good start I hope that is the last of your troubles.

Black Forest Gateau sounds like a fine idea, but I will have to settle for a Tunnocks Tea Cake.

Time is starting to fly now, but these little kits just get together really fast.  I think I am ready for the bottom colours to be applied

I thought I would show the optional raised and lowered flaps as I am doing two at the same time.

Onwards and upwards.

I didn't think they let you take kits into health farms. Great progress - just don't let Matron catch you!!

Good morning chaps and chapettes.  With the sun beaming down through the window it is time to start part two - colours and fiddly bits.

Time is 11 21.  Total time taken so far is 8 1/2 hours.

SWIMBO is making noises about going to a food festival, so I will get the next set of colours on then it is a trip out.  Still think I can finish this in under 24 hours building time though.

Well, we got back from the Food Festival in Bolton feeling several pounds both heavier (waist) and lighter (wallet)!  Feeling very full from not so healthy food, so you guys will be happy :P.  Anyway, on with the building.  I am now calling all the air brushing complete, and as you can see, these two are still pretty much under wraps.

I will apologise to any Dominican Republic members for the complete hash I have made of the paint job.  When I remove the masking it is supposed to be cloud like patterns, but I keep seeming to get close to bunny rabbits!  Odd shaped bunny rabbits, but bunny rabbit shapes none the less :crying:

Well if they can have "Mickey Mouse" camo patterns, why not flying bunnies?  Stix is jealous of your food... he may ask to move in (Please say Yes)

I have had a bit of a sit down to get the paint fumes out of my head, but am pleased to say that (in spirit) I have finished in 24 hours.  Having had to take SWIMBO out for a few hours I went over the 24 hour slot by just over three hours, with a start time of 4pm Saturday, and a finish time of quarter past 7 on Sunday, but I feel it makes the slot

What can I say?  This has been great fun and harkens back to my youth where the correct approach to modelling was to go to the paper shop, buy the kit and have it finished and flying round the room by tea time!  What have I learned

1) It is possible to fault find a failed airbrush when needed without resorting to throwing it out of the window.

2) Modern phones have a camera decent enough to take pictures for group builds.

3) I can actually finish a group build!

4) Leaving undercarriage legs in a plastic container by a window on a hot day means banana legs!  fortunately able to be straightened.

5) Not having the right colours means a little ingenuity.

6) I hate masking camouflage patterns

7) I still hate decalling.

8) I still love modelling.

Anyway, a couple more pics for you to show that I finished both sides.

Very nice! I've always thought the P/F-51 looked better in camouflage than NMF. Whenever I get round to my F-51D, I plan on doing it as the Dominicano version.
