Gannet ripple and relaxxxx

perdu

Recommended Posts

Whilst giving the back some respite I did try to get the Gannet looking a bit better but I'm just not getting it with the necessary paintwork lately

This might be OK if I can resolve an over wetted bit on the port wing

A coat of Future or Clear might see transfers on her next week

The undersides might benefit from another 'waft-over' though, thoughts?

I think I agree about another thin waft of paint. If you are worried about any inconsistency of finish, just give the model a very light rub with some fine Micromesh before the final coat.

There, you did your magic again - all looking silky smooth now 👏 :worthy:

I don't know about another coat on the bottom, the light source on that pic can be deceiving. I'd go with tonal variations all over it, but that's just me  😏

Ciao

Here's a trick I use sometimes on Matt paint.

Give it a good rub over with paper kitchen towel.

This will buff it into a slight shine and may even out the finish.

It may, however, leave a slightly dusty surface. Use a wet wipe.

I'm tending to Martian's view here although hard to tell from the pic. Out of interest, what paint are you using for the Blue Grey, assuming this is a COD Gannet? Sorry if I missed that earlier.

I do that too Pete, problem is (one of them) this isnt supposed to be a matt finish paint anyway

I am using Sovereign Hobbies Colourcoats RAF Blue Grey which is, I understand a gloss finish

It has come out matt because I am not getting a thin enough layer of colour down, mostly acos I am scared of getting runs all over like on the Buccaneers

I cant win :(  but tomorrow I intend having another bash at it

Tonight though...

Can you see what I see?

P1010310.jpg

Port wing inner section

I have been giving the thick matt paint a workout

Rescribing some of the missing and obliterated panel lines from stuff I did before

Amongst the stuff that got obliterated is

P1010312.jpg

between two panel lines parallel to the mainspar

There are some quite prominent row of rivets which on this side got wiped away in a frenzy of filing and sanding, hell knows why?

Anyway call me minicrisp, I am trying one row of the HGW rivets in 0.15 at 0,8 pitch which look very much like the original Frog granted ones

P1010311.jpg

A closer look, the last four nearest the camera were straightened up after the photo was tooken by the way

Unlike Crisp I intends giving the whole caboosh another very thin layer of paint, there's cracked paint skin to repair too, just in front of the bent line of rivets

I will try removing the cover skin tomorrow, fingers crossed please chaps/folks/friends

Other work goes on too

The Palouste has had a coat of paint and some more work done

The starter hose attachment point has been opened up and a hose coupler attached and the gauge panel has seen a touch of paint brush in an initial tidy up

And the intake openings have been fitted with their wire mesh covers

P1010314.jpg

P1010317.jpg

The wheel attachments now have their tiny little struts attached too and the hinged rear panel has bee engraved with microchiselled ribs and attached with superglue

P1010315.jpg

Hope that is enough for now, I am feeling like bed time beckons

The back injury means I cant sit up all night (cant sit still for long either)  :(

What a welcome update!!!

This and the buccaneer's are what I've been waiting for a loooong time!!!

May be you can give me a push to come back with mine too!!!

The last pictures  show pint work seems to be even on all her surface, so...let's wait for some Future and decalling now!!!

and the Paluoste is growing well!!!

Thanks Massimo.

I haven't really felt much like doing modelling because sitting still/sitting down has not been comfortable

It'll teach me to stand up instead of falling over huh?

:)

I thought they Palousted ;)

They did when I saw them

More shinier paint tomorrow if the weather dries out a bit...

Looks really good for the COD Gannet I must say. I've not tried Colourcoats yet, so will give them a go soon.

This is an excellent thread Bill, a veritable Gannet heaven!

Cheers

still amazed by that palouste.  With working in mostly larger scales it's difficult to imagine just how small 1/72 aircraft are, never mind the smaller bits that would be accessorizing them.  The intricacies involved in scratching such things almost outside my visible spectrum give me headaches just thinking about it

Thank you for that Colin, we tries to please

The airframe is allover RAF Blue Grey, this version comes from Colourcoats by Sovereign Models and although it photographs 'oddly' is a very good match for the paint in my jar of Compucolor2 which I bought from the producer's house in the very early eighties

Much of the apparent oddness seems to be based on my poor photography I suspect

Tonight I will mostly be making the hose cradle that lives on top of the Palouste in 'on deck' pictures I have

The Palouste will exist in three versions in my diorama parts collection

Fully closed up, hanging from the Gannet's port wing

On its wheels with the tailcone open and jetpipe visible, some access panels open

And on wheels in 'ready-use' mode with the yellow cradle fitted for on deck display and with hose fitted ready to couple to a passing Bucc or Sea Vixen

Need aircraft handling personnel now for diorama purposes now, a visit to Parabellum beckons..

Thanks Chris, seems to get further away even though its really improving

Anyway, I have been Palousting like a baader palone mideario

I was making the upper tubular framework basket, first try was using fuse wire with glue on the rods and adding the bracing struts with plastic rod and strip

But this was all clunky

What d'you think

P1010322.jpg

I just don't like the effect of superglue and cockpitglue, horrid

Since that yesterday I gave it a go with 0.020" Evergreen, looks promising huh?

P1010324.jpg

Its a better fit to the Palouste too, the wire one was too little

I have been building the frame out from the bottom, make the angles at each corner [five on this] allowing the width to happen as it widened

P1010325.jpg

This ungainly framework is destined to allow the trimmed, more accurate framing to be added later, the idea here is to hold the rods in order for the proper height to be estimated during the build

I can then add them and remove the unwanted support framing

More later OK

wow!   That framework is something special already.

Agreed 100%

I'd have suggested soldering for the metal version, but the plastic one looks soooo good :worthy:

Totally on board with your thought process and superb fine scale modelling here Bill.

Doing it without the old slaters too ...................... 😁

Cheers
