I got mine from Hobbyeasy a couple weeks ago, quick service. It's a spectacular kit, I've built 14 1/48 Flankers and this build will take some time as there are a lot of tiny parts and details. Finally these new kits (+GWH) are including the wealth of under canopy ducting and details as well as wheel well accuracies which save a lot of time and money on scratch building and aftermarket.

I've build kits with less parts than Minibase aqua-Flanker's front gear leg...

I know, the whole kit does look daunting.  However, having built 5 Sol canard Flanker conversions including the Su-33 I'm very happy with these new kits and their amazing level of accurate details.

I've just finished the review for this one, and it's a doozy.  I've never seen so much detail on an aircraft kit before.  Some of the parts are tiny, but those, the PE parts and the clever moulds just makes for an awesome looking kit.  Have a read - it's a long review too! :phew:

  • Homebee changed the title to 1/48 - Sukhoi Su-33 "Flanker-D" & Shenyang J-15 by Minibase - Su-33 released

The Chinese Navy Su-33 also known as the Shenyang J-15 Fēishā or "Flanker-X2" is reported coming soon - ref. 800?

Su-33 and J-15 are both adaption from the original Su-27 to naval operations. Their overall profile is very similar but there are different in details. According to the current MINIBASE standard, it is estimated that about 25% of new parts will be needed to achieve the J-15 design goal.

Interesting! I wonder if they will include parts for the J-15T with CATOBAR ("Catapult Assisted Take-Off But Arrested Recovery" or "Catapult Assisted Take-Off Barrier Arrested Recovery")?

So whats the difference between Su-33 and Su-27K? Wasn't Su-33 initially called Su-27K?

That's correct. The Su-33 designation was originally used (unofficially) by Mikhail P. Simonov to underline how different the naval variant was from the base variant. Only when the Su-27K went into service the name Su-33 was officially chosen.

Based on the box art I would guess this boxing will cover the early marking variants (Blue 109/T-10K-9 was the final prototype). The first boxing already had the parts (instrument panel) for the early/non-upgraded machines, so I guess the plastic will be the same.

Cheers

Did you notice the P-270 Moskit missile between the intakes?

That makes it different.

Yeah but not everyone has a Facebook account.

I hope we see more subjects from them with same level of detail but not taking 4/5 years to develop them.

A pity the Moskit missile was never cleared for the Su-33 and this was just an airshow loadout. But if they provide a missile cart to display it on its own, this would be nice. Although I said to myself I don't need another Sea Flanker, the Moskit puts this resolution in doubt...except someone would part with the missile
