Spitphoon 1/72 Airfix.

Recommended Posts

Cheers G. it keeps the peace.

Right. Today our Son Shane was due over but thanks to rail works he could not make it.

So I had time today to mask up the Dark Earth for the Dark Green to be applied.

SP 10

SP 11

SP 12

Yes, I did see that a bit of tape is needed for the canopy.

Hope to spray tomorrow depending on the weather, a cold Easterly  with poss snow.

Anyhow, all comments welcome.

Hello Simon, looking very sharp. Good job. No snow here in the west of NRW, but a really chilly, kniving and stormy north east wind at the moment. To give you a short summary: I was three times outside today and I can honestly say. It's brass monkey's out there! Cheers

P.S: only -2°C  here in Münster:shrug: ; but the icy wind makes it feel like - 10°C or (less) so , which keeps you inside very fast. You got it a bit warmer in England there at the moment from what I saw. So I guess you could spray eventually tommorow without snow. Cheers again

Cheers Benedikt, it not so much the snow but the wind direction, it was blowing directly into our windows where I spray.

But the weather was kind enough today.

Thanks Giorgio, he is visiting us on Wednesday.

Right, got the Dark Green laid down this afternoon.

SP 13

SP 14

And after 1/2 hour the masking was removed.

SP 16

SP 17

And underneath.

SP 18

A couple of touch up`s there but not as bad as I thought.

Let that dry overnight before Glossing for Decals.

Looks impeccable to me, Simon

You still have a bit of tape on the tail fin, port side, though - visible in your last pic before the one of the underside

Ciao

Cheers Giemme, I did notice it after I had taken the pics.

Said tape removed now.

I also noted some touch ups on the wing root leading edges to sort out too.

Nice work Simon, she looks really smart :)

Cheers Ced, not as smart as yours though...

OK folks, sorry for the delay, life gets in the way.

Got chance today to lay down some Gloss Varnish.

Varnish

G 1

G 2

Then I looked at the decals and spotted something missing.

SPIT DEC

Three gun patches....

Oh well, time for some masking or cut some painted masking tape.

Not sure...

Anyhow, it is not going to stop me from putting the rest on this weekend.

Happy Easter to all.

Ciao

Thanks Giemme, I am trying my best.

Right, on with the decals.

Starting with the main upper wings and fuselage ones.

SD 1

The Squadron codes are out by 3 mm, my fault, once I noticed it was too late , bugger.

SD 2

Better but look carefully...

SD 3

The "0" had shattered, oh bugger.

Will try and sort that out with a spare number.

SD 4

A shot from above shows a little more fun.

A gap on the Starboard outer wing walkway short, or should I say that the black and white plans are hard to decipher where the decals start/finish.

So will leave for tonight and carry on with the undersides tomorrow.

OK folks, sorry for the delay but now to the Euro-Typhoon.

While I have been spending time on the Spitfire I neglected the other part of the build.

So, I spent time today rubbing down the plane with 1000 grit emery to clear up the mess it was in.

ETP 1

ETP 2

I notice a little hole at the back end so a dab of Green Stuff in place.

ETP 3

Will let that harden over night and sort out tomorrow.

Hopefully lay down some primer as well.

The Spitfire is about done with decals. (will post pics tomorrow)

The forest of missiles first.

ETP 4

Upper fuselage.

ETP 5

Lower fuselage.

ETP 6

And other bits.

ETP 7

ETP 8

All looks good for more work.

U/C doors to be scribed before base coat.

At least it has a simple camo pattern.

Well thats all for now.

Cheers Giorgio, those doors are back to haunt me.

Last night I decided to scribe the U/C doors, and this happened.

Those bloody doors 1

The filler came away something rotten, so ....

T B D 2

More filler, and s*d the scribing this time.

I have had enough of this for now, if it was not for the fact that is a present for our son both this and the Spitfire would of ended up in the bin.

Both kits showed why Airfix had problems in the past.

But now their new toolings are something to behold .

Anyhow, leave this to set overnight and sand back tomorrow before a quick blast of primer... again LOL.

All comments welcome.

Simon, slightly hacked off.

Keep it up, Simon - I'm sure your son will appreciate

I use CA (pure or mixed with talc) to fill gaps when I know I need to rescribe over them. My :2c:

Great project Simon, the Spitfire looks wonderful and its air defence heir is coming along nicely indeed.

Thank you Cookie, appreciated.

Right, on with the Typhoon.

Sanded and polished bottom, again.

ETP 9

And some remedial spraying of primer too.

ETP 11

And a few parts that needed touching up Fnar.

ETP 12

Leave to dry for now then a rub over the fuselage for base coats.

NO scribing !!!!!

All comments welcome.

The spitfire looks great. Pitty about the scribing after filler. That always happens to me too, I’ve found if you scribe really lightly, do you have a Tamiya scriber? If not I can highly recommend them. Any way really light passes using dymo tape is the best way I’ve found. Or as you say not as all for a really smooth finish. Great save by the way. Looking forward to paint kid.
