Spitphoon 1/72 Airfix.

Recommended Posts

Thanks gents, and yes the pint went down well John.

Small update.

Both outer doors sanded back now.

O.Doors 19

O.Doors 20

Just the main doors to do again.

The ones I done are slightly to thick, so I am replacing them with some out of 0.2 mm card.

Cheers lads, just the inner doors to do.

But for a quick diversion the cockpit dry fit.

Cockpit 1

And the air-brake.

Air brake 1

Not so good.

See what a bit of filler will do.

Back to the wife now Ho hum.

That pilot looks suspiciously like the one I had in my Airfix Harrier Gr9 kit .... :D :D

Not a great fit for the air brake, but I'm sure you'll fix it in no time

OK, time off for being a good boy. LOL

So a bit more done.

Replaced the doors with thinner card.

O.Doors 21

Then glued them into place. It looks ugly but I have a lot of sanding to do to it to fit the profile.

O.Doors 22

Let that set for now.

Also gave the air-brake a run of filler.

We will see how that looks once a coat of primer hits it.

Airbrake 2

Time for a cuppa and fag me thinks, then assist my wonderful wife in the kitchen to cook tea (Pork chops, new spuds and veg)

The air brake doesn't look that bad now  The main doors are going to give you a lot of sanding, though :frantic:  :D

  • 3 months later...

Hi folks, it`s back although not so good.

Her Ladyship Rose is not having a good time of it so asked me to finish off this build for our son Shane.

So with the GB build awaiting primer and paint, I attacked the Spitfire.

The office, not a lot really.

Office 1

Once cleaned up, the pin on the back of "Bill" made him sit with his head way to high, and the pin on the back of the seat to far forward.

Office 2

So off they came.

Next up was drilling a couple of holes for the stand.

Stand holes

And with the stand dry fitted.

Stand 1

That is it for now but with the Tiffie and Sunderland on the go I will be all over the place .

Well a quick update.

Spitfire canopy masked ready for fitting.

Spit Can.

Outer doors on the Tiffie had a copious amount of Squadron Green Stuff run down the joins.

O Doors 23

Leave that to set over night and shall have the attentions of files etc then.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi folks , I am back again...

Sorry about the delay but life raises its head to often at times , but..

I have been on the bench though and done a fair bit.

Priming first, lots of it.

P 1

Including Bill and Ben..

P 2

They were painted up, washed and varnished.

B A B 1

So were the offices, although the Spitfire was non existent .

SPIT OFF

TOFF

I have done a bit more than that but have not taking pics yet!!!

Will post later.

All comments welcome.

OK, as I said earlier I have been doing bits but not posting.

The inners primed and painted XF 71.

P 5

And the canopy masked and painted too.

P 6

Now to the Tiffie...

Cockpit painted and anti glare panel painted.

PT 1

And the inlet.

PT 2

And the outlets ...

PT 3

I hope tonight to fit the cockpit and fuselage together for the Spitfire, depending how it goes.

Thanks for the comments folks.

Well, I did manage to test fit the office into the fuselage through the bottom Fnar Fnar.

And it worked.

TFIT 1

So I glued the two halves together minus office and slapped some tape around her to hold in place.

F 1

Today I removed the tape and with a few swipes on 1000 grit paper had this.

RFP 1

A coat of primer will show up any blemishes later.

Also fitted Ben into his office.

TOFF 3

I have just got to sort the fit issues with that office for the Tiffie.

Time for a cuppa and smoke and see what else I can destroy/ I mean fix.

That's a lot of builds on the boil Simon, should keep you busy ;)

It should do Gremlin, I have still got the Rhino to finish off as well.

Thanks Giemme, slow but surely, getting a bit frantic with the different builds but sanity remains.

Right , a quick update.

Priming tome again.

P 7

Bits of the Sunderland as well.

You can just see a seam on the nose cowling on the Spit fire that needs to be sorted out.

So will deal with that and hopefully get on with some other action

Well folks, time at the bench has been limited so only a small update.

That seam!!! along the nose.

RFP 3

Blast!! Still there after priming and sanding so added some fill and rubbed that back.

Then gave her another prime .

RFP 6

All good by the cockpit but still there!!!

So, mask off and get heavy.

RFP 7

RFP 8

Exhausts were primed and given a base coat of Dark Iron before adding some weathering.

SP EX 1

The Tiffie had her canopy masked up.

Tiff Can M.

And that is about it for now.

Off to cook Sunday Dinner now , Roast Chicken etc.

All comments welcome.

Nasty seam there, Simon. Masking around when you need to go heavy is a good idea

Tiffie canopy looks good too, looking forward for more
