Julien
I am hearing that some of these kits have shipped from TAKOM without tracks in them. If you have one check it, and contact your retailer. Julien
Kingsman
Does anyone know if Takom have correctly depicted the Czech engine deck in this kit? These vehicles were built on 2nd hand East German Czech-built chassis, not converted from the original batch of Russian built T-55s. AFAIK none of their T-55s to date have included the Czech parts. junglejim
Actually they were Polish built hulls, and yes, the correct Polish engine deck is there. Jim
Kingsman
Apologies about Czech v Polish. Misinformation from another site.
Centaur95
Yes - they were new-build Polish hulls ordered specifically for the Marksman turrets. Cheers, Centaur
Kingsman
Ah. Story I read was that they were 2nd hand ex East German NVA Czech-built hulls bought from the newly-unified Germany, who inherited hundreds they didn't want. Wiki suggests Polish, and AFAIK NVA had both makes. Either way the chassis weren't new. Poland stopped building T-55s in 1980: the Czechs carried on until '83. The Marksman turret development didn't start until '84 and it wasn't ready to mount on a hull until '86. ItPsv 90 Marksman wasn't created until 1990. But as long as Takom have got it right, none of that really matters
junglejim
I've been lucky enough to see the real thing a couple times at least (being married to a Finn we go back there every couple of years). Haven't had a chance to catch the Leo 2 Marksman yet, maybe next visit! marksman-25s by James Carswell, on Flickr Jim
