First effort at posting some drawings. I'll build it bit at a time if it works.

Short 184 choppy beaching

Any feedback more than welcome. RAL

First one's a bit contrasty for a pencil drawing?

Thanks for that guys.

Afraid I have to work on the raw photo quite hard to produce a viable image .

I think pencil drawings may be at the tricky end of the spectrum.

Outdoor daylight may be better.

I'll see what I come up with.

That's an excellent drawing. It looks in the style from that period.

Yeah you're right. Like an illustration for a " ripping yarn" story in one of those old Boy's Own annuals.👍

Probably into 1918, or even RAF time, those are the later wing tip floats, and a newly developed depth charge bomb mounted on the rail, and g.p.iron bombs on the concrete plinth on the beach.

The little guy beside gives some scale and an idea of the size of these aeroplanes.

Dunno what happened to the rest of my text - musta just popped over to a Parallel Universe ( I get a lot of that...)

What I said was - she's sitting on the ramp, a platform that runs on rails down the beach into the sea for launching and recovery.

I love good pencil drawings, and these are brilliant Rob. I really like your careful, subtile pencil stroke technique. Well done.

Got any more of the kind?

remind me of the Michael Turner book I've got.

Just this week I was looking through a book on the Luftwaffe crammed with drawings and paintings, and I think it was his work.

Is that the book you've got, or has he done more than one?

Seriously impressive body of work

Excellent drawings, Rob!  You have a light touch and the subjects suit your use of the pencil.  I think you ought to try a few in watercolours.  Schneider Cup racers?  My current obsession.  That Macchi Castoldi M.C. 72!  Begging to be painted or scratch built.

It’s really about a decision isn’t it? Do I model or do I draw and paint?

Rob,

Thanks for your art work which you included in my topic.

Your drawings I like a lot, I hope you find more inspiration to continue.

About building models, may be I'm a lucky guy, I have been drawing and painting all my life, I will have a look to show some in future.

So keep up the good drawing-work...👍

Winth kind greetings,

Again, I like your clean and fragile, light stroke pencil drawings...

Looks like you sat next to them there, scetching...

I wouldn’t mind at all, having one of those on my wall...

I'm back with a couple more pics of my Short 184 drawings.

I'm afraid it's a bit tricky with a phone camera for pencil drawings!

But here they are....

This one seems to come over after some cropping ...

The moment of transition!

IMG_20200505_212310

This is parked at the top of the inclined ramp on rails, wings folded with a Naval Officer in repose against a float...

An occasional visitor arrived at the little base at Newlyn, sometimes a Felixstowe in difficulties or in transit to the Tresco base on the Isles of Scilly.

But this is I think a Sopwith Baby, or was there a Parnall Baby....?

Darned Will @malpaso nabbed a kit of one of these from under my nose at a club meeting a couple of months ago.

Tsk‼️😲

That's all I've got for now 👍

More excellent drawings Rob, I like them all, but particularly like the perspective of the one parked on top of the ramp - great stuff!

Could I ask where you find the reference material for them?

This is a great publication for the general history of the plane and lots of images.

Excuse the reflection, it's 184 of course!

Also a couple of books that I got in Cornwall. One was an overview of all cornish aviation.

And the real gem is an account and history of the WW1 anti-submarine flying activity from the area.

The dirigible airships at Mullion, the flying boats on Tresco, and the 184s at Newlyn.

I'll get the title and author for you. I have a feeling he's called London.

I found some photo archives and material locally over time too.

Thanks for the info Rob, I have a feeling I might have that Datafile somewhere in the chaos that is my 'library'...!!

For some reason I think it's a good looking aeroplane - seeing it drawn so well helps of course!

Cheers
