Selwyn
Looking at Sabre jets, just how many types of drop tanks were used on the aircraft? there seem to be US manufactured and Japanese manufactured tanks, some marks of sabre seem to have different tanks to others, and no doubt there were other types used as well from other user countries production. Can anyone help? Selwyn (Bit confused on this!)

Ed Russell
1/48 Scale - 100gal and 166gal https://www.redroomodels.com/red-roo-resin-148/148-100-imp-gal-sabre-drop-tanks/ https://www.redroomodels.com/red-roo-resin-148/148-166-imp-gal-sabre-drop-tanks/ 1/72 scale - 100gal and 166gal https://www.redroomodels.com/red-roo-resin-172/172-100-and-166-imp-gal-sabre-drop-tanks/ There were several different styles depending on place of manufacture. Kits vary. These resin ones represent the most common style and certainly that for CAC Sabres.

Sabrejet can probably detail the differences, but I seem to recall that due to a shortage of Sabre drop tanks, a source of manufacture in Japan was used for a time- don't remember if they were the 120 or 200 gallon, but I think they were painted OD to distinguish them from the U.S. manufactured tanks, as they had some weird characteristics when jettisoned. IIRC, the inner pylons could carry the 120 gallon tanks and the outboard pylons could carry the 200 gallon tanks. I think it was the F-86F-25 and -30 that introduced the two extra inboard pylons to enable it to be used as a fighter bomber. Curse my fuzzy memory! Junchan
The JASDF Sabres used two types of drop tanks, the early 120 gal. tank with fins and late 200 gal. fin-less tank. The former is the same as that of the USAF and the latter looks like a 200 gal tank for the F-100. This web page is excellent coverage of the Japanese Sabres. http://nabe3saviation.web.fc2.com/aF862j.html Another non-US type of drop tank is the 800 ltr tank for the Canadair Sabre Mk. 6 of the Luftwaffe. Sabrejet
I'll have to do a drop tank wrap-up by the looks of it! 72Modeller is correct: some 120-Gal (120US Gal that is) tanks were made in Japan by (Shin Meiwa?) and behaved a bit oddly when jettisoned. Also factor in the parallel-sided 'Misawa' tanks, as also used by Korean War F-80s, plus the large ferry tanks used only on the F-86A. I'll get on it!

Ed Russell
From here it looks like 1/48 are available. 1/72 out of stock. We will probably re-issue the 1/72 - which are you after?
