US Marine Corps M60A1 a Tamiya kit revisited.

About 5 years ago I started the Tamiya M60A1 kit. I planned on leaving off the ERA and going with a three color NATO camouflage. After weeks of putty and cursing, I abandoned the project due to shear exhaustion. A recent "Group Build" on another site (Unfinished Builds-Armorama) gave me the spark I needed to pull this out and have a go. This will not be a full on contest build, but rather a good shelf model.

This is essentially how I left off. There is more putty than plastic under the Mr Surfacer on the lower hull.

Somewhere the smoke grenade boxes disappeared. I made new ones from styrene bar stock.

Wheels do grow in the desert.

Primer. I used a generic spray can gray.

I mixed up a good baby poop tan color from Model Master Acrylics

The camo I finally settled on is a bit complicated. I chose to hand brush the remaining three colors.

First coat. Model Master "Field Drab".

Second coat.

I mixed the sand yellow from Vallejo "Yellow Tan" and "Sand Yellow".

The black accents will be Vallejo "Black Gray".

This is what I'm shooting for.

This tank has always enchanted me, and with the MERDC camouflage, even more. Even with brush work you're doing very well.

I have always wanted to make a vehicle (at least ... lol), with this type of camouflage, but, as you say, it is quite complicated, and I have not yet been able ...
It might be a good idea, try a cheap kit like this ...

Thank you all!

Francis, the very thought of applying MERDC to an AFV Club M60A1  for the first try terrifies me. This good old cheap Tamiya nugget offers all the potential for gaining the experience, without the absolute heartache should one fluff it up.

Four color MERDC complete, on to weathering and detail painting. I sprayed a flat coat of Model Master Acryl Flat. It really smoothed out the finish.

I replaced the ancient vinyl tracks with workable indy links by AFV Club. Tedious, but the results are worth it.

A job more than good !, looks really nice, and the tracks, a magnificent addition.
When finished it will look great.
I tried a long time ago to make a camo this type, and ... trash / box of spare parts.
The one that attracts me the most is the Winter US & Europe-Verdant, a pending subject ...

Cheers G.
