harveyb258
Good afternoon, chaps. A continuation of the gearbox for your perusal...…... First up, the universal joint. I made this from 3 and 4mm brass tube for each side. After drilling a 1,2mm hole through each, it was just a matter of filing out the centre to create the leaves. The pivot is 1,2mm and 2,5mm tube. The short shaft is 2mm steel rod:- Next, the rear panel. Fabricated from nickel. I decided to add a bit more raised detail below the output shaft ( I hope you approve, gents), using brass and a bit of spare p/e from my Cooper build, to create the end of the input shaft:- ….and now a group shot with the beginnings of the brake servo ( a perfectly sized steel washer and the flange made from brass):- Well, that's all for now, folks! I hope you enjoy and thanks for watching Cheers, H
Hannes
What a beauty ! Massimino would be very proud ! And I also wouldn´t be surprised if someone would intend to reconstruct this car in 1:1 after seeing our pre-works . Fantastic job ! harveyb258
Thank you, Hannes. Yes, it would be amazing to hear and see the beast "in-the-flesh", wouldn't it? One can but hope!! Cheers, H
NickD
Thumbs up from me. "just a matter of ..." LoL. Not the way I do it! NIck 1
harveyb258
Hello chaps. A bit more progress on the gearbox to share with you all- Firstly, the gear-shift mount- Next, the oil-pan is now firmly bolted in place, using M0,6 hardware from Prime Miniatures. The offcuts were then utilised on the top. These now await the delivery of more goodies. The cover plate under the drive shaft is detailed with T2M nut and stud rivets (0,8mm, I think). Finally, the ball and lever. I turned each half from aluminium rod. Actually it was the end of a scalpel handle. The lever is 1mm nickel tube and has distorted slightly on the bend, so I will replace that. Well, that's all for now, folks! Thanks for watching. Cheers, H
Hannes
The great work continues ! I´m very impressed . And I´m sure the other spectators as well ! Hannes 2

harveyb258
Hello chaps. A bit of an update on the gearshift for you all- -The lever has been replaced and the knob turned from ali and brass. -The plate and cup were turned from a scrap lump of ali. -The protruding attachment-point thingy was formed from tin. I'm a bit unsure as to it's purpose, tbh. I would naturally assume that the main linkage would have it's attachment point beneath the gear-lever, as I have depicted, so is it a spring pick-up point or the attachment for the reverse gear linkage??????????????????????????????????????????????????? Any ideas guys??? Cheers, H
Jo NZ
Perhaps it's a reverse lock-out lever?
Hannes
It´s a very small and thin lever , about 3 cm long in reality and I doubt that there´s a bigger mechanical function . Maybe a lever for adding gear-box oil during the race by opening a valve of the standing tube . Great work again ! Hannes
harveyb258
Thanks guys. OK then, I'll leave it as it is. So, my next step will be sorting a linkage and bolting the assembly to the mount. Then, I think we'll have a dry-fit in the chassis, to see how everything is looking! Cheers, H

I have been very busy these last days, and the few time I had was focused on my own build, but it is always a pleasure for the eyes to look what you are able to do. Really incredible job! I look forward to see your Fiat 806 birth... and Hannes one too, of course!
harveyb258
Thank you, my friend, I appreciate your kind words. It will be quite a long gestation period until she's re-born to the world, unfortunately, probably about another 12 months to be complete. I don't predict any problems with the build, though, until I start fabricating the wheels and tyres, tbh…...that will be a step into the unknown. The only other hurdle is the louvred panels, which, will have to be hand-stamped (of course). If I've learned nothing else in this life, I've learnt this one thing.....there's a solution and remedy to EVERYTHING!!!!!!!! Cheers, H
harveyb258
Good morning chaps. A bit more progress to share with you all... Firstly, the gear selector rod has been finalised and along with the union-joint, they had a treatment of AK burnishing fluid, followed by a good rubbing of AK steel powder. Unfortunately, the photos don't show the true effect, but, trust me, they look the business when viewed in-the-flesh (so to speak). Also, I finally got everything bolted up. Next, the brake-servo. It seemed to take forever to shape the "tripod", then it wouldn't marry up with the disc. It was only then that I came to the realisation that the hole in the washer wasn't central. D'OH!!!! Never mind, the next washer was "true", so I made another. Now that it's bolted to the gearbox, the only things still to do is to fabricate a small bracket for the attachment of the free end and then the control rods. Well, that's all for now, folks! Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoy!! Cheers, H
CrazyCrank
Very impressive skills of a perfect mechanic ... my hat's off, my dear Harvey Edited October 26, 2018 by CrazyCrank
Hannes
Great work , dear Harvey ! Don´t forget the small container for the clutch parrafine oil ,hanging on the firewall ( most likely inside the structure with holes ) It´s a great pleasure to see your progress and I hope I will be able to continue with my work as well in the near future . Many greetings ! Hannes 1

harveyb258
Many thanks, chaps, for your compliments and your continued support. It's a nice feeling to know that others are equally enjoying the journey with me....GREAT FUN!!! 14 hours ago, Hannes said: Don´t forget the small container for the clutch parrafine oil ,hanging on the firewall Don't worry, my friend, I won't. I'm in analysis paralysis mode at the moment. I'm trying to foresee any potentential issues before they become issues. No stone will be left unturned!! Front suspension next!! I need to get the front of the chassis bolted together before we go any further, so leaf-springs first. Stay tuned! Cheers, H
sharknose156
already in a 1 : 1 scale it would be amazing.... so at this scale it is more than pure art... it is magic. you are from another planet, and God bless your eyesight.

Roy vd M.
Beautiful work Harvey, looks like jewellery. Regarding the wheels and Tyres, for the Delage I intend to use Mr Wingrove’s method, described by him in his two ‘The Complete Car Modeler’ books. Perhaps worth a look..
harveyb258
Thank you Roy. Not sure yet how I plan to address the wheels/tyres tbh. Re. Mr Wingrove's books...after all these years, I still haven't got around to purchasing them. A little note to Santa might be in order Cheers, H
harveyb258
Hello everyone. I'm pleased to report the gearbox's completion! YAY!!! I'll let the pics speak for themselves.... As you can imagine, I was slightly apprehensive at the trial-fit... especially with having minimal clearance on the left-side. Needless to say, I'm chuffed to bits!! Hope it puts a smile on your faces, too! Cheers, H (ps. front suspension next....I promise!)
Roy vd M.
So do you consider sellling this baby when it’s finished? Much interested
harveyb258
I haven't even thought about selling it, Roy, tbh. I don't know if I could bear having to part with it, having already put so much into it. I truthfully couldn't even put a price on it! If I did, though, the price would have to be a FAIR reflection of that. Cheers, H
