Took a boat trip out to the George Bush and harbour tour, the rain thankfully held off.

Nice photies

Same Q as the other day Willy, where did you get the boat from, was it from Gun Wharf Quays, the naval base  or Gosport side? May try to get down tomorrow, if it's Pompy side I'll train it, or if over the harbour I'll drive.

In case tomorrow doesn't happen do yo know what time she leaves on Tuesday?

cheers

thanks Willy, will do.

so the same lot that do the harbour tour Panzer? just wondered how they'd fit it in with the normal harbour tour.

Think   plan A) is go to Pompy either GWQs or dockyard, if no joy nip across to Gosport on the ferry ( grrr, used to be free ) and try from that side.

or plan 'B) stay in bed :D

Great pictures, thanks for sharing !

I particularly liked seeing the current VFA-87 CAG plane with its grey and white tail, reminded me of the days when the unit used to fly A-7s

Wow! Thanks for sharing.

I've actually been onboard that beast. A friend of mine served in the US Navy and his last deployment was actually it's maiden voyage to the Sandy Lands (as he referred to it). The voyage saw the flotilla stop over in Portsmouth for a couple of days, at which point myself and a few friends were cleared to go aboard and be shown around whilst she was in Stokes Bay. It's basically a massive floating city. Pretty cool that even in though they were in the waters of a ally, there were a couple of submarines watching over her at all times. There is a statue in one if the hangers depicting Gerorge H W in his Navy days.  I really ought to dig out my photos of the event...

Looks like the Georgie Bush could do with borrowing a paint cat or two from the dockyard, her escorts look in far better shape and one of them is nearly 30 years old.

It would be nice to think that the paint system used on QE will prevent her from looking like that after a 7 month deployment.

Philippine Sea was berthed inboard because she looked even worse than the George, rust, black soot marks and green algae all along her side she looked terrible.
