Nice work on the canopy Jamie and a nice save on it as well.

It's perfectly understandable if you don't make it in time, it's best not to rush things. Look forward to future updates as they come.

Thank you for the kind words, Rich! I still have to update my thread with all the work done till last week-end. Unfortunately, I haven't managed to progress this week as I'm always in a low energy level at night, when I would have some limited time for modelling work. I expect to have a few hours to work on the MiG this coming week-end but I also have to start my Dornier Do 24T flying boat for the Flying Boats and Float Planes GB I'm hosting.

Cheers

Hi again,

Still updating the thread with work done several days ago.

After washing the clear parts and while they were drying, I sanded the excess white putty on the missiles and tires:

IMAG4963

IMAG4964

Only primer will tell if this was enough to make the ejector marks vanish.

The clear parts were, then, fully dry, so I gave them a bath of Alcalad's Aqua Gloss. Here's the set-up:

y4mkCKfaTroDLteEJCf0Rf55AbI9Tr5kjnPgZWvL

IMAG4965

Every clear part was fully immersed in Aqua Gloss:

y4mDdNz8JxVrYY0QJlKzhMIGfWLurH2mzAnp6V7f

IMAG4966

The parts were put on a clean kitchen paper towels, to absorb the excess while the parts dried:

y4m1fGpCu7ZGA36BEm0VihnAupSX4nSeolMesvet

IMAG4967

As already shown in a previous post, a few days later the parts were fully dry and this was the result for the wind shield and canopy:

IMAG4999

Thanks for looking.

Continuing with the updates.

Next I moved to resin and PE parts of the cockpit.

First, I had to glue together the two parts of the control columns, as it was broken out of the box:

y4mn4UYJSVK5SUgffSaC37zL45Q9Sq7BmIppTVDw

IMAG4968

After glueing the parts together:

y4mdFVFDBPjHFqA4tP7ddmZnmRzrMzeqSUGwN7x7

IMAG4969

Next, there were two resin parts to glue to the sides of the seat's head rest. Here the one on the left is already glued in place:

y4mB14BnKr0rALggJk9QVJbENgDx7Bg9iVMWeixK

IMAG4991

There's a PE fret with many parts for the seat and cockpit:

y4m_d6kbCZ0w93QbrEkXV7X71J6NDcmcXleeVOiG

IMAG4992

The first parts to apply go on the seat, as shown in the instructions sheet:

y4mhXaDGIcVTGbPJLL-CihB9CEBabU_v5T01KG-A

IMAG4993

Here's the seat with all the PE parts minus those for the seat belts:

y4m_ZwxuC0uzA2EjmfnsBNRoyEOi5HfUPNsuNO4X

IMAG4994

These are the instructions and the PE parts for the seat belts.

y4muWh38UbueQPtof9ac9y3N8aXF3CtigIM10f58

IMAG4995

Crossing the PE parts as instructed was quite a challenge. This was the best result I managed to achieve, after several tries:

y4mZ7XqMiVGMXHWrWFIMvu942B960aRZowxQuxJx

IMAG4997

This is how the belts rest on the seat:

y4miBuuAqKairAL_3_Wy-s4DopV3M6BUCCRPoJ2M

IMAG4996

PE parts PP7 are also constituents of the seat belts, to be installed on the front of the seat (see the first photo of the instructions sheet, above). Here they are, already bent to shape:

y4mNtvmOB_Ra6xpa68Fc2honN-5ddYoFJWJAJ0HT

IMAG5009

The seatbelts will be painted separately from the seat and installed when the cockpit painting is complete.

Thanks for looking.

This post makes the thread up to date with the work done till yesterday.

I installed a rectangular piece of 0.13 mm-thick plastic card on the hole on the bottom of the cockpit that I did while removing the resin casting block:

y4mxGh7tXhZMXA2PkB8Zn0ZJgjWi2mkLP_rHFr85

IMAG4998

Then, I glued pieces of sprue inside the front fuselage top, around the rim of the instrument panel cowling:

y4mrSzKjKzNJX_p5ppOFy3_zvxauuWQTeeUJl_u-

IMAG5000

y4mdLGMj4MTmoEzJNpxfQiXTjUMn61h1RdkmS0Hj

IMAG5001

This was done to provide support for the installation of the instrument panel cowling resin part but scraping will be needed in order to achieve a proper alignment of the resin part.

These are the PE parts to make the rudder pedals and linking bar:

y4mUcv2dwwX3KlfZyxn4t3M_NEgcqBM7JEHDHaxV

IMAG5002

The parts were bent as instructed:

y4mw5MImlLptyoKDjyJIRnQKu4J9m2-v1Z9oHktI

IMAG5003

and glued in place with CA:

y4me673Qu0ielPdZHh8LCL94zFIdSkXcBCTUKDi-

IMAG5004

y4mh6L7wRmiKVcLehpdsFdkCyMS6ZRXzdSZkfW6F

IMAG5006

There was also a small lever to install on the left vertical console:

y4m6jNrN0c6jt_Q99wvD7ha1VN9T8uyHn0cXEL8t

IMAG5007

and two small levers to install on the right console:

y4m00yxfbXm8TW8pQZQpx_WViMVuwgvGwm_LNb74

IMAG5008

These three levers were quite difficult to glue in place...

Finally, here is the instrument panel:

y4mcn6Gyt_r1JgTv9NwN0DdHD4LQkJ-BXVq6x8YA

IMAG5010

The sides had to be bent:

y4mY_cPuYC0kIsq39VVbYCdC0MBJIZQFpjFiACbL

IMAG5011

There's an acetate with the instruments to apply behind the PE part but the back of the instruments must be painted white. So, I applied a piece of masking tape to protect the clear films that will be installed on the HUD:

y4m9omnMTTeHgj3abGh74nIyuXkebYRWET3Nm9Oi

This all have done till now.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks Rich! Much appreciated! These PE seat belts were especially challenging, as the back cross-shaped part had to be bent through the lateral parts representing the vertical harnesses. Several tries were needed to reach an acceptable looking result.

Cheers

Just tuned in and have to say thank you for such a wonderful thread. I appreciate that it takes a lot of time to photograph, assemble, label, and post such detailed pictures!!

You said a couple of times that all the pictures were "boring", but I certainly don't agree with that -- I found them informative AND entertaining.

Thanks again.

Gene, Giorgio,

Thank you very much for your interest and very kind words! Much appreciated!

I'll keep working on it but I'll start my Dornier Do 24 flying boat for the Flying Boats and Float Planes GB in the next few days. As host of that GB I cannot fail to finish my entry :)

Cheers

Hi again,

This is an update with work done last Sunday.

I painted the back of the instruments acetate with flat white, using a nº 2 brush:

y4mO_VuVBA-XEg97GQ_lmeHXo_3EegXBkJXTMeLJ

IMAG5013

y4mPlDK1YcBp5FggIpCisXfXfUhgvi5vMIUDTLor

IMAG5014

Next, I spent quite a lot of time slowly filing the support for the instrument panel cover until the resin piece was properly aligned in place. For this I used a half-round file:

y4mJD6jQbk3Eo_q4Z6wWoyfHS_pVg0FRrLteGxj2

IMAG5015

Then, I glued the resin piece in place using slow setting CA glue. This same glue was used as filler for the gaps around the piece:

y4mFpY8TW4rELZveY1bcqNCr_T1_Jz4KcNEQT0xu

IMAG5016

Here are a few views of the end result:

y4m9X6GxwH-7ffaG_vTyANgSO8lHcxW8YH2sojix

IMAG5017

y4m7Riu-zXMEuHsm2zFE0uH2omFrrnoYj7DqzeJo

IMAG5018

IMAG5020

y4mrHDkO64x7a96d-shjOiFMtwsyzf6JgOkFfxKA

IMAG5021

To finish with, I glued pieces of plasticard to the ends of the lower air brake. When I removed the resin part from the casting block, I wrongly removed the slightly raised areas on these ends. I later found pictures showing the lower air brake having these raised ends, to make a streamlined surface with the upper air brake when closed. So, I'll reproduce the removed detail by filing the plasticard to shape:

y4mu8_S85ZtCOowHXtihUAFzBhodmryULcP2Rw_u

IMAG5022

That's all for now. I've now started building my entry to the Flying Boats and Float Planes GB. So, it may take a while before I update this thread again.

Thanks for looking.

Jaime
