My endless Spitfire build - ready for 2019

Recommended Posts

I seriously admire your motivation building spitfire after spitfire. Makes me wonder how you do it 😀

Re what next, number 9 would look great!

The usual: glue, a few tools and some paint.:D

In case anyone is wondering what's happened to the 18, it's nearly there:

(I think it'll need another coat of Light Sea Grey.)

Thanks for looking (and don't forget to vote).

Do you have any NMF Spits yet? If not, one of those gets my vote :)

I have made a HAS Spitfire:

Decals dug out of the stash. I'll make something off this sheet next:

You know the rules: one person, one vote and the top five will go through to a second round of voting.

I'm intrigued by ON-E in what look like Operation STARKEY markings.

There's a colour drawing of MN820 in Spitfire Special by Ted Hooton, the accompanying text states: 'the exact configuration of the wing stripes as shown is based on conjecture (hopefully to arouse the interest of those who may know their exact appearance), but the drawing is otherwise believed to be authentic.'

Another vote for No. 18 with the 'thin' invasion stripes.

The Mk 18 is looking great Simon.

Off to read about the silver Mk IX's and Operation Starkey - both new to me!

Thanks Cookie, it looks like I'll have to source some 4mm Tamiya tape.

Operation Starkey was part of Operation Cockade, a deception plan to make Jerry think the Allies were going to invade Northern France in Autumn 1943.

Also, I still owe you a care package, which I hope to mail soon, if my kid ever stops barfing.

I'd rather hear that your boy has stopped puking. I have between 80 and 90 Spitfires to do before I start on the Lysanders, which are after the 20 or 30 Hurricanes, which are after the... you get the idea.

Did the Blenheim stickers arrive?

It's a quiet afternoon here, I risked life and limb on very icy pavements to pop out earlier to get momo and soup. This afternoon has been spent watching the snow fall, putting matt coats on the VBs, giving the XIX another coat of PRU Blue, painting another coat of Ocean Grey on the 24, knocking a pot of Ocean Grey over and, drinking these:

(The last two incidents are NOT related.)

Keep them votes coming folks, the 103 MU Spitfire VI is in the lead at the moment.

If its not to late to vote ? I vote # 12

It's not too late (I hadn't mentioned but the winner won't be started until the week after next, at the earliest, because I'm going to be on a training course in Birmingham next week).

As I appear to be snowed-in (and slightly worse for wear (I'll be hitting the gin, after some Chilean Malbec and Tokai, in a while)), I've finished the VBs...

2018-03-02_05-47-18

(They might need another coat of varnish and/ or a rub-down.)

and almost finished the painting of the XIX's top sides (the underside have had a first coat of PRU Blue):

Meanwhile, the 24 is waiting for the Ocean Grey to dry before getting a coat of Dark Green.

There will, probably, be no more done today; instead, I'll be listening to some of this:

Thanks for looking.

Thank you gentlemen.

I pinched the poster paint idea from Tony O'T and it's just a tray bought from Wilco for a quid.

I'm not sure if I'll ever use the greens, pink or purple but the blue, brown and white come in useful for weathering exhausts, exhaust stains and general grubiness.

I have got a bottle of ready-made black but using the poster allows you you make it as think (or thin) as you want.

Tony, the KP kit is lovely (although, in my opinion, the decals leave something to be desired).

Hi ,you can get some Acrylic paint in tubes from the pound shop ,also oil paint in tubes .

One vote only, I'm afraid, this is FPTP not STV.:D

Flying along now Simon, great stuff :)

Are you sure the paint spill and beer weren't related? :hmmm:

Thanks Ced. The two events were not related.

As the snow is on the retreat, I popped to the Battle of Britain memorial:

20180303_123910

20180303_123924

Now to put some transfers on Spitfires.
