Persian Thunder...1/48 Republic F-47D "Alibolt" Imperial Iranian Airforce

Recommended Posts

#14/2017

And my dad finished another one, the first of some upcoming IIAF stuff.

Used the "M" version of the great Tamiya kit. Wanted to use Tigerhead Decals, forget it. Except the tricolor decal for the rudder all other ones are undersized and the underwing numbers are missing too. My dad painted the rudder and the roundels. The latter ones didn´t come out perfect but look ok. They should even be slightly bigger but my dad had no bigger ring masks.
Vallejo Metal Color Aluminium used for painting.

After WW2 the Iranians received 50 (some sources say 60) F-47D-30 (some sources also say D-28) from the USA. They served from 1948 to 1959 and were replaced by the F-84 and F-86.

Your "look ok" is equal to my "brilliant"! That is a beautiful looking plane, well painted, great (and different) markings.

DennisTheBear

you don´t see it on the pics I´ve taken but the roundels on the wings show partly some "orange skin", thats because my dad needed several mask and paint attempts to get the roundels right

Very unusual color scheme - thought it was Italian on first glimpse ...

Exotic "Jug"!

Some decades earlier it could have been. Besides the red-white-green roundels, in WW1 the Italians also had sometimes green-white-red ones.

Beautifully done, intriguing scheme.

What did you use for the metallic finish? (Self-interest here, because I have a metallic RAF Thunderbolt planned for the future.)

thanks!

it was Aluminium from the Vallejo Metal Color line, like with all "metal" paints you need some practice to achieve a consistent surface but then you get a nice end result

you can search here under Ready for Inspection for "Suez Crisis", last year I posted an Israeli Meteor built by my dad where he used a Vallejo Metal Color paint too

Cheers, Reinhard
