1/48 Airspeed Oxford Ambulance.

Recommended Posts

Here is my Special Hobby Oxford representing the ambulance version in 1940.
The build involved constructing a new tilt-up door, moving some windows and detailing the visible inside.
This took some time and for the first time I took a snap of my labours (to prove that it is there)  as most of it cannot be seen after
closure of  the fuselage halves.
Otherwise it was a straight forward build that was finished with Tamiya paints and decals from the spares box and a few custom made ones
from my friend at MAV decals.
Finally here's  a note on the B/W image;  Girl Guides from all parts of the British Empire contributed donations towards the purchase of two air ambulances and a motor lifeboat in 1940.
This photo shows one of the air ambulances and with Guides and Brownies on the day of its presentation.

As usual  comments (especially on  bo-boos) are welcome.

Cheers,
Etienne.

What a lovely job you've done on a quite tricky kit - the seam between the back of the glazing and the fuselage kept me occupied for weeks on the one I built. The scratch built interior is superb - the curtains on the windows of the door remind me of the ones covering the skylights on my VW (Dormobile) camper!

Great work - well done - a really lovely result.

Nick.

It's a beautiful model of an often unsung plane, and taken from real life adds a great deal to it.

Do you know what the circumstances were in the photo you posted?

Superb job Etienne, as others have remarked not only have you taken one of the unsung heroes of WW2 in the Oxbox, but then you've chosen an obscure use for one - so much more interesting than yet another Spitfire, Bf109 etc etc.  Many congratulations on producing a very fine model.
