Canopy masked...

and I found some pitot probes in the spares box for another Dassault jet, a 1/48 Falcon 10.

I will have to reshape them a little and find a needle for the pitot that goes in the nose cone. Then I think it is ready for some paint.

Looks great!

If you want to spend money on the pitot, I think there is nothing better than a turned metal pitot from Master!

Thanks

I thought about it, the D probe is a little different at the base of the probe where it connects to the nose.

I just found some locally, so I have ordered them and I will see if I can use them.

Is it?

Thanks to @exdrakken for suggesting the Master brass pitot tube. It arrived today and looks so much nicer than the kit supplied part.

BNA Model World was out of Mirage III pitots so I ordered some Kfir ones, I figured the Israelis would use what they could already get and they look the same as the Mirage pitot tube.

I had to file down the base of the probe since the pitot joins the nose cone at the top, not the centre like a IIIB or IIIE/O

Some more puttying required to fair it in properly

I also continued adding gear parts and some doors, stuff I could add before final paint starts

And finally, I got to work on the base.  I found an old picture frame, added some craft wood blanks, a brass tube and painted it up. Some more work to go but I think it is looking pretty good.

G'day Ray,

She looks very crisp now that the fingerprints have been cleaned up.

Erm, is that large nosewheel door on the correct side?

It doesn't look right, I know the tubs had a slightly different nose gear set-up, but I think that was to do with the actuators not the door but happy to be proven wrong,

cheers,

Pappy

Yes, I had it on the wrong side. Working with it upside down so much added to the error. I have now corrected it.

Very good looking Mirage. I like the diorama. What's gonna be in the middle of the diorama base? A runway picture? I'm curious :)

Cheers. Evert

Thanks, Evert, there is a piece of 'RAAF Mirage history' to be added into the middle, all will be revealed when it is complete ;)

Looking every inch the French lady now. Good to see that you did not miss the lower IFF antenna, Kinetic did!

Does the Heller kit include the centreline pylon? If so, do you still want it?

cheers,

Pappy,

There is no centre line pylon in the Heller kit, you don't even get Sidewinder rails. A pair of 'super' external tanks (110 gal) is all the extra hardware supplied.

On my next IIID, I would love to mount a centre line 274 gal fuel tank.

And it is done.

17 December 1986 is a day I will never forget, I got to fly faster than the speed of sound in a really cool jet :D

And almost 30 years later I have a model of the jet I flew in. Here are the pictures...

Always nice to build a model with a sentimental attachment - keeps the mojo going. Lovely result and presentation Ray, well done.

I have to add - you lucky so-n-so getting to fly in a jet like that!

Thanks all, this is the 3rd build where I have modelled the gear in transition. In this instance it was straight forward to cut up and reposition the gear pieces, next one will be an RC-135. A bit more work in the build as I have to drop the flaps as well.
