SAAB SK.37 Viggen 2-seater (1/72 Heller)

Recommended Posts

Built as part of a Heller 60th Anniversary group build on HyperScale's 1/72 Group Build Forum. A bit rough in places, but life's too short to worry about it. Changes to kit were:

- Lower canard elevators and wing flaperons
- Modify thrust reverser to sit as per parked aircraft
- Scratch-built token after-burner flame holder
- Replaced nose and fin pitots with scratch-built metal ones
- Use Maestro resin seats with scratch-built firing handles
- Added HUD and cathode ray tube to coaming
- Added periscope viewers under rear cockpit coaming
- Added small brace between air-intake and fuselage each side
- Added a bit of detail to rear undercarriage legs
- Replaced solid front undercarriage drag-link with twinned rods.

[EDIT] It's been pointed out to me that I have the faces of the main wheels facing inwards rather than outwards, this error now corrected!

This scheme is still one of the great challenges and you have done it well. I didn't notice the wheel problem.

Ditto from me too.

Thanks, the Maestro pre-cut masks helped, but it was still no walk in the park

That's lovely, such a brilliant scheme and wouldn't it look great on current Swedish aircraft. I did the same kit in these colours thirty years ago freehand with a hairy stick and was very pleased with the kit and the end result. Thank you for posting.

I'm with Britman....my favourite scheme, and very nicely done. I built the 1/48 Esci Viggen many years ago and hand painted the camo. It actually came out ok, but would like to think I could do better now.

i see Tarangus will be doing the Viggen in 1/72 soon, and it is well overdue for an up to date version of this attractive and "different" aircraft in "the one true scale"!

There is definitely one of those in my future!

cheers

Tania

Hello,Kiwikitbasher - I know that altering the positions of the main undercarriage wheels would pose no concern to someone who could create this magnificent 'splinter-scheme' camouflage.I love the 'Viggen' and I love yours, Superb work.

😉👍 All the best from across the miles, Paul.

Now she is gorgeous

Always loved the Viggen's splinter cam, you've nailed it beautifully

And using 'masks', well the success rate of any I've ever tried makes this an even better model

I am useless with masks, you ain't!

👌
