Andrey Z
Hello everyone, This is my first WIP here. Despite project is half-way completed I decided to show you what's on my workbench at the moment. More over this WIP should be good motivation to finish the build. So kit from SMER was spotted and bought for 10 pounds occasionally and I didn't take it seriously until I found scratch build of the same model from Dan (@PROPELLER) in 1/8 scale. My life has changed dramatically since that time Ok, less words - more action. Let's start building 1949 Belgian Grand Prix winner or at least something that looks similar... First of all let's have a look at the model out of box Just a simple plastic toy I started from cutting, drilling and building frame Edited May 31, 2017 by Andrey Z
Roy vd M.
Try to get this build even remotely as interesting and awe-inspiring as Propeller's and I'll follow with pleasure...
Andrey Z
and a bit more details... p.s. Sorry for my English and feel free to mark any mistakes
BeastieBoy73
Great to see so much effort going in to a £10 kit. As a newby, my budget is carefully limited to my ability but seeing your build of a budget kit come together is inspiring.

Alan R
Hi Andrey, That is stunning! I have been building model kits for over 50 years, and I could not possibly even start on something this special! I make small changes to my kits, but this is in another league! I am going to follow this with interest. These SMER models (weren't they 'Merit' kits originally?) have been on my radar for a considerable amount of time. This might inspire me to try to detail an old kit a lot more. BTW, are you going to fabricate wire wheels as well. Something this special deserves special wheels... Best Regards, Alan.
PROPELLER
Wow! I'm stunned... In this scale it's a real challenge, and here reached brilliantly. Feel free to ask me some reference pics... Dan.
shood23
I've messed around with these old smer kits in the past but didn't ever think to take it to the level you have with this. I mean havening the inner workings done up is great but (not trying to plant an idea but...) have you thought about having a half open build to show off all this great under workings you have done at the end. Andrey Z
Hi Gents, Thanks a lot for all yours kind comments. Alan, you might not believe but I've got 2,5 completed models so far. Just started modeling a bit more than a year ago. You are right, SMER is exact copy of Merit models. Kit is oversimplified so I couldn't resist to improve it slightly. Regarding wheels... there are few options but I want to build really 'cheap' model and will try not to spend 20-30 pound for spoke wheels. Dan, thanks. Your Talbot's build is definitely what I was inspired with. I use images from your WIP as a main reference. The only thing that I couldn't find is fuel tank. Have no idea about shape, pipes and etc. I would appreciate if you can share some pictures. Shaun, good point! That idea is already planted and growing. I have a plan how to show inner mechanics but will keep intrigue for a while ))) Ok, let's continue. Front suspension this time Edited June 7, 2017 by Andrey Z
Andrey Z
Some work on engine has been done as well. Initially I was planing to build very precise replica but after some calculations realized that it's very difficult because of wrong body size

PROPELLER
Unfortunately, I do not have accurate references for the fuel tank ... I am only sure of the fuel shut off valve: (Yellow arrow) Regards, Dan.
