That's correct. 09/06/1966 XN979 V-232Buccaneer S2 801 NAS Crashed shortly after take off from HMS Victorious off the Lizard, Cornwall. It stalled due to an underwing combination which had not been tested. Nose to the CIT at Cranfield. This was followed up by Boscombe Down who did not believe that the empty slipper tanks caused the accident so they sent out a test pilot. He took off in XN979's replacement and promptly crashed in the same circumstances. https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=137469
perdu
Should have had the widescreenband doohickeys, might have been a better underwing flow and stopped the stall Only kidding, I'm glad no-one was hurt And ON it is then... ?

I thought that it might be a SNEB/Matra pod without the nose but have my doubts as it extends too far behind the pylon I think. Those pods also had a slight taper at the back. Perhaps early ones didn't? Anyway, whilst reading up on the S50 I came across this nice one of the weapon load. I also include the well known photo of an 801 aircraft at Lossiemouth with a weapons display. Still doesn't answer the question because nothing in there looks like that pod. 1

So tempting to knock up a master (perhaps two, as they are likely port and starboard handed) and run off some resin copies and market then as exactly that. perdu
Ah yes, but which widescreenband doohickeys will you market? There were pointy ones Scooptopped ones And other less scooptopped but slightly askew visually, ones Anyroadup, I'll have a couple of each, OK

perdu
I wonder what happened here? Oh yes I was out getting Foxed by a Vixen and waiting for a Buccy mojo rebirth And today, look what I found nestling in the garden White, they was Shiny Humbrol Gloss White to boot I will be needing another can or two, it worked BETTER than Tamiya for me I'm staggered Anyway they can stay out and de-fume til the gaffer and I return from our little 'walk' Fitness? Round here? Garn and gertcha ( due homage the the late Chas, RIP, master) We like an occasional meander up the road and back "There's a pub just over there, shall we?" 😊

Massimo
HIP HIP HURRAY!!! It's really a pleasure to see they're still on track!!! Just one question......WHY WHITE GLOSS PAINT??? From the pictures they look really nice and even, but ...if there's a b***ard in the world of paint is gloss white!!! I'm a coward, I know, but I would have gone for matt and then Future! Anyway they look great, so...let me talk and go on your way! Nice to see them back anyway!!! 2

perdu
Ta mates, Massimo why gloss? Simple New rule round here: paint gloss then add transfers ( decals in new money ) then matt if it needs it using Tamiya Matt Clear aerosol I have restrained myself, simple mist coats followed by a 'sit and count sparrows in my tree' moment then mist again And again and again The polytoned Matchbox blues can still be made out under the thin layers as can the matt white on top of the Frog one but a trip to my local model shop will resolve these minor issue on the morrow I'm quite relaxed about this now that the white coat is improved, hope to get some real progress now

Terry1954
I would have reacted the same way as Massimo, but seeing the picture and the actual finish you have there, I'm impressed and a tad converted to the idea. Another one for the "list of other peoples good ideas from BM"! Thanks Terry
71chally
My eyebrows were lifted, not by the choice of gloss white (I use Halfords Appliance), but by the choice of Humbrol which is famed for turning yellow! 😲 Edited September 23, 2018 by 71chally
perdu
I tried Appliance White Bubbly paint and fillers all over the shop I tried Tamiya White Ditto And ditto other brands so in the end I went for the Humbrol, it will be white for a while and after settling it will live in the display exhibits box with oh so many others If it yellows but stays shiny it'll do A model isn't JUST for Christmas tha knows 3

perdu
Neither of them is perfect but both are in the right condition to be tidied up nicely Just a couple of run ripples and the tailpipe junctions on the Matchbox one to tackle gently Cheers guys

perdu
Yes Keith they are Acrylic, so I am keeping my fingers crossed The paint did dry remarkably well for Humbrol Gloss yesterday and today I went shopping for more Tomorrow the garden will be washing free so I can tackle the next coats (couldn't spray today with washing on the line in close proximity to the spraying/garden table)
keefr22
I really like the Humbrol spray cans too Bill - one thing I would say, I sprayed the dark earth on my recent P-47 build with one, but it needed some small touch ups so I decanted some and put it through the airbrush. But then I had the devil of a job trying to clean the 'brush out afterwards. So I don't know what formulation they use, but it seems mighty tough!! I use Premi Air Liquid Reamer or Spray Craft Airbrush Cleaner. They seem similar and will shift any type of paint. Mask and great care a given!
