Roman Schilhart
Hello and thanks for your interest, here's my 1/72 Sword Supermarine Spitfire IXe in markings of 26. GIAP, Leningrad, April 1945. Photo etch from Brengun, metal gun barrels from Master, decals from AML ("Lend Lease Spitfires Pt.1", #72018). Painted with acrylics from Sangyo/Gunze. Photographs by Wolfgang Rabel, IGM Cars & Bikes. To represent the overpainted British Roundels, I tried a new technique: I painted a Black disc the size of the Roundel before applying the main airframe colors. Now there's only a soft shadow line visible. Best wishes from Vienna! spruecutter
A great looking model and the red stars certainly ring the changes. Your black circle technique is very effective.
neil5208
I like the overall finish, impressive. How do you find the Sword models to put together?

Thanks for your feedback, Steve. The Sword Spitfires are of good quality in terms of detail and general fit. I find them easier to assemble then AZ Model's Spitfire kits - but maybe that's just me ... The only area that needed attention was the wing/fusealge joint, I used some putty and sanding paper there. Everything else fits reasonably, without making many adjustments to the parts. It's a pity that Sword's Spitfires can be considered obsolete by now, since Eduard have released their Spitfire range - with even more detail and finesse. Luis Alfonso
Hi Roman!!! Congratulations for this nice build My Friend!!! I liked a huge lot the enough level of detail and the nice tricks you have used here, for sure will take note as have one Russian Spitfire in my mind to depict the bird flown by Juan Lario Sanchez, a Republican Spanish pilot that after the SCW flew with the russians in WW II, and BTW the paint scheme AFAIK, is nearly the same as you did here. Its a nice gem of a build that you have obtained with this so called "obsolete" kit by the experts...maybe Eduard can release better kits but the case is what any modeler can obtain great results dealing with nice raw material and talent as you have done in this case. Maybe the other kit can give many more detail and finesse but the one showed here forme is suficient. Also, think that maybe the other newer models could be more expensive but looking at your wonderful results here, If I have had enough of them, I would be happy to have a very friendly kit that leaves anyone work so nice of which can obtain the very best of it. Thank you very much for sharing, Cheers, Luis Alfonso

BerndM
Super build and painted, the subtle overpaintings over the RAF roundels look simply right !
RidgeRunner
I like the panel wash - Flory, I guess? Like me, you have gone for the variable look which matches reality. Very nice. Martin
Learstang
Beautiful Soviet Spitfire, Roman! I believe I have this kit in my Soviet or Spitfire stash. Regards, Jason
Steve392
Hey mate. I love this build and it's given me inspiration as I eventually want to build my own Russian Spitfire. If you don't mind, I'll be stealing your over painted roundels idea as it makes perfect sense. Steve
