AD-5W Skyraider "Guppy" Conversion set for Trumpeter Skyraiders

Kit No. A3245..............$120.00

Now up for pre-order, the AD-5W was the AEW / ASW variant of the famous Fat Face Skyraider. The conversion includes a complete fuselage and corrected engine cowl as well as the complete cockpit and aft cabin electronics suite unique to the Guppy. The giant APS-20 radar dome is hollow cast for light weight and the unique metal aft cabin hood with portholes is included.Even the under fuselage belly plate has the modifications for the radio access hatch.

For the detail minded modeller, the radar operators' cabin has more black boxes that you can shake a stick at, as well as the mounting platforms. The aft cabin cover is molded so it can easily have the clamshell hatches cut away for display in the open position to show off all the myriad components of the radar station.Decals for one gull gray over white and one glossy sea blue ship ( Both with nose art! ) are included, along with  clear cast resin windscreen and pilot's hatches.

Definitely something completly different!

Please note this is a pre-order and kits will not ship until the decals arrive. Please be patient, this is one of the most detailed and unique kits in 1/32 to come along in quite a while and will be worth the wait.

Does anyone know if I can use this to make an FAA AEW-1?  Google is not helping me with differences between 4W and 5W

Cheers

The only useful thing would be the radome and that might require modification. The -4W was a modification of the single-seat AD-4 Skyraider with a radome and two crew seats added in mid-fuselage. The -5W was a bespoke multi-purpose, multi-seat airplane. See https://tailspintopics.blogspot.com/2014/02/the-widebody-skyraider-redux.html. For details on the AD-4W, see https://tailspintopics.blogspot.com/2018/06/ad-4w-skyraider.html

Paul Fisher has said that the Raedome will be available separately , as well as the revised corrected engine cowl,

If you search on LSP, you should find a build of a FAA AEW Skyraider completed some years ago, as I recall it turned out to be a fairly simple job using a half drop tank for the upperfuslage bulge , in that case the raedome was taken from an Avenger AEW conversion
