I'm on a bit of a B.A.O.R kick at the moment so this is right in my ball-park

I enjoyed building their Australian version from the Vietnam War a while back. Looking forward to seeing this one in progress.

Kind regards,

Stix

Heard plenty of good things about the AFV Club kits and those accessories look like worthwhile udates as well. A B.A.O.R. kick should be yeilding plenty other interesting subjects for this one to join.

Day 1

Hull & Turret Basics

Decided to do the Turret first (Sections 18 & 19) - rebel that I am...... at just 8 parts there was some clean-up but nothing drastic

I was always intending to add the Mantlet update so some minor 'modification' was needed to allow for a better fit

A little bit of tweaking goes a long way, the Mantlet cover isn't even glued in yet and it's a nice fit

Leaving the Turret to dry fully I moved on to the lower Hull (Sections 7 - 10) at least in part, the main parts and my choice to go Mk.6

Sections: 7 gives us the rear spoiler, 8 the radiators, 9 the upper Rear Hull and 10 the front Upper Hull

You can see clearly here the radiators. Bit fiddly assemblies C (B16 & B17) and D (B10 & B11) in Section 8 - a little patience here

Day 2 (That's today)

Bogie Units and Running Gear

Upper Deck and Track Guards

Turret Enhancements

centurion-mk6-nato-0022_orig.jpg

Section 1: Bogie Unit, the Centre set, does not have the rocker arm dampeners like you saw in the previous picture

Section 2: the Front and Rear Bogies with dampeners - I have glued these. Rear Drive Sprocket housing also fitted

centurion-mk6-nato-0021_orig.jpg

Section 11 - 14: Rear Deck guards and Exhausts installed. The rear external Telephone is also fitted along with the lifting eyes

centurion-mk6-nato-0015_orig.jpg

Section 20 & 21: More Turret detail added with Smoke Dischargers, Stowage Bins and other fittings

centurion-mk6-nato-0017_orig.jpg

The Ariel mounts needed work as I couldn't fit the Ariel. I drilled the mount with a 0.6mm drill and cut Albion Alloy 0.6mm Brass Tube (part of set SFT1) to fit

I decided to replace the moulded on cable for some 0.3mm Black Copper WIre from Little-Cars/Modelling Tools .co.uk - Looks much, much better

centurion-mk6-nato-0025_orig.jpg

I actually assembled these on Saturday but they fit in better at this point. Simple click-fit links of 108 for each track-run

Over half way completed now. It's all the fiddly bits now and the light guards will need work as they have snapped

Next Up?

Fixtures and fittings and Stuff!

Day 3 (Thursday)

Odds and Bits

Turret, Rear Hull and a little extra

centurion-mk6-nato-0029_orig.jpg

A little more building today (Thursday 25th) but it's just a bit too warm for the glue.

Added some of the clear parts on the turret and some filler on gaps

centurion-mk6-nato-0028_orig.jpg

Completed most of the detail on the rear hull with Tow Hooks & Eyes, Exhaust outlets etc.

Tow cables will be installed later once the painting is completed.

centurion-mk6-nato-0026_orig.jpg

My Bazooka Plates were warped and couldn't be fixed so I have scratched a new set.

I removed the bolts and tie-downs from the original and transferred them to the new.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There will now be a break for a few days due to the heat - Acrylics don't spray well if it's too hot and humid. I shall start another build in the meantime but as soon as the temperature breaks I shall be back and painting this model.

I am debating which scheme to do as this vehicle was a mid-1950's to 1960's variant and a little research will help to narrow down the period I shall set for the final finish.

It may make a good companion to my Conqueror perhaps?

Fine work on the details here again. These small touches really lift the quality of your final model to new levels
