Has any one built this? Is there a build review?

Heard detail is lacking for such an expense kit.ย

Would you actually consider building one?

Here is a build thread:

For short run kits it seems rather great!

You can't expect Tamiya quality for such obscure and low volume kits...ย

What is your point then?

You either want one and can be happy there is one that can be build build to a great standard or keep your focus on the price :(

ย

maybe if keeping your eyes open you will find a cheap second hand version one day...

I'm building one right now.

It's a short run kit and as such the quality isn't at an Eduard standard obviously.

The details are soft, missing and in many cases wrong and the fit of the parts is not great.

is it overprized for what you get, probably yes.

BUT and that's a big but, it's the only way to build a SAAB 17 in 1/48 scale unless you want to scratch build one.

And with a bit o TLCย  it can be made into a good looking replica of the real deal.

What Flarpen said. Bang for buck ratio is very low. But I have a soft spot for the designs with weird undercarriages.

Well, the SAAB 17 has a very simple U/C solution and the U/C cover doubles as a dive brake during dive bombing.

It was well demonstrated at Duxford Flying Legends a few (10-15?) years ago, and I was very happy to be able to witness this flight. No doubt there are numerous images and videos of this strangely unique dive brake undercarriage, so I won't search for my own.

To me it seems strange that it is unique (is it?). You would think that such a brilliant solution would become standard.

Strangely elegant and beautiful, in an ungainly way.

ย

Dive brakes are also the front undercarriage fairings.ย

It's a Transformer!!

Braking by undercarriange during dive bombing was used with e.g. the Vindicator, but I havenโ€™t seen any other types actually designed for it. Designated dive brakes seems a bit more.. controllable and wonโ€™t give innecessary drag while not braking. Dive bombing fell out of fashion shortly after anyhow.
